TommyP and FDV, any updates to HFSLIP and FDVFileset based on these patches?

If you need a tester for these let me know. I'm looking to rebuild with the latest patches.

There needs a slight tweak to HFSLIP for the directx hotfix. FWIW, HFSLIP juggles various versions of directx and leaves the latest stuff there... as I said before, slipstreaming XP is a piece of cake, but with W2K, there is lots more variables (I guess that's why others haven't attempted it). Don't worry it's under control and I expect to send FDV the new version before the end of the day.

@FDV:

For Win2kSP5 on your webpage, you still list KB899588 when its's been replace by KB905749.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/MS05-047.mspx

Also, you didn't list KB900725, which replaces KB894320.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms05-049.mspx

Also, the new IE5/6.01sp4-KB896688 replaces IE5/6.01sp4-KB896727.

FDV, the reference to "IE5.01sp4-KB896727-Windows2000sp4-x86-ENU.exe" in the section of your webpage dealing with FDVFiles is obsolete. It should refer to "IE5.01sp4-KB896688-Windows2000sp4-x86-ENU.exe".

You refer to the correct IE cumulative update file in the section of your web page dealing with IE5 and IE6.

Also, I think that there is an additional IE6 update for IE6 Win2k users only, specifically IE6.0sp1-KB905495-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe. It's buried in this link here.

Good job on the watchful eye-ness.

@fdv+tommyp: the IE6 update for 2000 that saugatek just mentioned (905495) is not an IE update for XP/2003. It is an Update for Windows.

the_guy

EDIT: It only affects IE6 SP1 for 2000, XP SP1, and 2003 SP0

They might not be needed for the lists.

@ saugatak - Thanks for the info on the hotfixes. I guess that
http://www.msfn.org/...showtopic=31886 doesn't want to support W2K hotfixes anymore.

@All, the new hfslip version is up. It was a small correction for some directx slipstreaming. The prob was that when HFSLIP is run on a 2k source, it decides which version of directx you are using, and it slipstreams the correct files. Pending future microsoft directx hotfixes, this version should be good for quite sometime (unless I feel like adding in another feature). If anyone has ideas for additional features, please PM me.

OK I'm confused. Is it a Windows update or IE update?

IE6.0sp1-KB905495-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe should clearly go into HF if your're slipstreaming IE6.

But what if you're not slipstreaming IE6? Can you drop it from HF if you're using FDV's fileset or going with IE5?

BTW, just wondering, but what is the logic on sticking with IE5. Support for IE5 has dropped so no more hotfixes coming from M$. Either you would use IE6 or take out IE altogether with FDVFileset or nLite.

Just a suggestion FDV, but would it be a good idea to drop IE5 coverage on your website, simplify things a little?

It is an Update for IE 6 SP1 for Windows 2000. It is a Windows Update for Windows XP SP1 and Windows 2003 SP0. It is NOT for Windows XP SP2/2003 SP1. Just thought I'd make it clearer.

Could somebody create and maintain the threads with hot-fixe for Windows 2000 and Windows XP as Bilou_Gateux created for Windows 2003 Server?

I could do Windows 2000. I am going on vacation for a few days so I could maintain it whenever I get back.

Great

Please consider that there are a few choices: some people move to IE6 SP1 and some people still stay with IE5.1. The same with DirectX versions 7 and 9. You may have a look at some threads in Unattended section as examples.

I used HFSLIP_51011.cmd but it didn't integrate these hotfixs:
WindowsXP-KB898461-x86-PLK.exe
WindowsXP-KB887472-x86-SP1-PLK.exe
WindowsXP-KB890046-x86-PLK.exe

because people still use IE5 shell files that come with the hotfixes, IE5 is still necessary to support when using my IE removal fileset, and the instructions for slipstreaming IE5 are really only a few extra paragraphs anyway. so don't worry support will not be dropped.

saugatak - thanks for the text fix (incorrect reference on my site). will make that change as soon as i can.

bilou - thanks for the 2003 list. that's a bit of work that makes my life easier.

dziubek - good to see you back. please attach your ERROR_REPORT.TXT, that will help.

the_guy - a windows 2000 list would be great. the thing is, windows 2000 as Oleg_II notes has a few branches now, windows 2000 with IE5 or IE6 and with DX7 or DX9. your list when started will be pinned at the top of this subforum and you will be trusted by a LOT of people to keep the list meticulously updated. now, i'm not saying this because i don't think you can do it, i just wanted to be sure you appreciate the audience your info will have. to put it another way, before HFSLIP merged with FDV's IE removal project, i got about 150 hits on my site per day (webalizer). it was 12,837 average per day for September... with a significant following from around the world, only a fraction of who actually join MSFN... so what i'm saying is "the pressure's on" :D :P

all (this part is a repeat from the old thread)
Supporting HFSLIP (if you want to -- no offense taken if you don't put this in your sig!)

You can put this in your signature of your profile to add an "HFSLIP" icon to the bottom of your posts.

This one features Exroidal:

or this one is a small one

It's small and unobtrusive. Let's get word out about this new forum for October. (These logos eat bandwidth fast with the hundreds of views they get (every one of your posts would now carry the logo in the sig, everywhere on MSFN) so I might take the graphic down in November out of necessity, we'll see.)

Again, it's strictly for those who want to -- nothing personal if you don't...
Look in the main forum for details on the logo contest.

@fdv,

Regarding the hotfix that saugatak mentioned earlier (IE6.0sp1-KB905495-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe), you seemed to have left it out from the site. Is it included in any other fixes that you added?

Thanks,
Pene
