OK, I just got a new Maxtor 40GB ATA133 @ 7200RPMs...Whenever I put it in my computer, it tries detecting it as soon as the computer boots, but never finds it...I set the jumper from Cable Select to Master and still the same problem...
Is this HD backwards compatible with ATA100 (I think its ATA100, correct me if I'm wrong)?
//edit: I'm thinking I need a BIOS upgrade...If anyone finds anything with the following, please let me know:

The Intel 440BX chipset had lots of problem with compatibility, somtimes it ever required "special" ram modules for it.

Find out your mobo model (usually on your manual, or open up the case and look inside for any numbering)
Then look it up on the mobo manufacturer site.

There is alot of problems as previous stated with the "BX" or Bitched X as we call them here. Your best resource is probably to either contact your manufacturer or OEM and ask them. Also please try to check-out http://www.bxboards.com they are a good resource for BXboards and their chips.
