Reading over the documentation it appears to be an imaging utility that also handles software automation - if I am already content with the imaging process I have in place, can I simply use this tool for automation? I know this is open source - can it be used within a corporate environment?

It comes with a manual, there is a fairly comprhensive help section at the website and the main release post has a example with it. WHat more do you want?
