Of the files/updates that you cannot "directly" download from Microsoft.
Is there anything wrong posting how to obtain those files/updates presuming know one else knows?
This applies for Win98 and WinME. Not sure about 95 but I imagine it would.
Thanks in advance.

To be clear if I applied all the ME updates from your site then upon browseing to the Window Update site to your knowledge it would display that I have no updates (unless they have a newer driver than I have of course)?
Also this is to include more than the Critical Updates and Service Packs but also the Recommended Updates?
Thanks in advance and also for the quick response.

That includes those from WU [Windows Update], those from M$ servers [not necessarily available on WU], those issued by M$ but not available on M$ servers [so-called "hotfixes"], and also unofficial ones, made by concerned users from M$ files that were intended for other Oses or from modified older versions/builds, but which were tested to make sure they work OK with 9x/ME/NT4/etc.
Every update/patch/fix/(hot)fix/etc specifies the OS(es) it is/are meant to install on, usually enumerates all files that would be installed, most of the time their versions/builds, and most of the time what bug(s) is/are fixed by installing respective update(s).
All updates have links to their original developer web pages, like MSKB articles or MS0X-0XX Security Bulletins.
If any special steps are needed to install a particular update, you will find them detailed step-by-step, usually in bold characters.
And if you hold your mouse cursor over the "Direct Download" or file name link, you will see the exact location of the file , and the file name + extension.
That is if you are using MS IE 4/5/6, and have disabled the "Show friendly URLs" box in MS IE Properties -> Advanced tab.

The next version of the SP is almost ready. As well as the changelogs I posted recently (look at the last one), I am planning on including WMP 6.4. However, I know that a lot of files have been updated to the 7.x line, and others are just newer than what I could download.
The following list is what files are being included, compared to what is on the ME cd. All of these files are from the MPLAYER2 cab in IE6 SP1, except msdxm.ocx, which is from 832353.
-File name- -Version in SP- -Version on CD-
asfsipc.dll 1.0.0.3858 1.0.0.3857
drmstor.dll 4.1.0.3858 4.1.0.3857
dxmasf.dll 6.4.7.1121 6.4.7.1112
mplayer2.exe 6.4.7.1121 6.4.7.1112
msdxm.ocx 6.4.7.1129 6.4.7.1112
msdxmlc.dll 6.4.7.1121 6.4.7.1112
npwmsdrm.dll 4.1.0.3858 4.1.0.3857
strmdll.dll 4.1.0.3925 4.1.0.3857
If anyone has a newer version of any of these files, please let me know. DO NOT POST FILES THAT START WITH 6.4.9 AS THEY DON'T WORK ON ANY PRE-2000 (ME included) OS. If this is wrong, tell me, and show it working.
Also, I am going away this afternoon and returning on Tuesday, so don't expect a new version before Wednesday. I might have some time on Tuesday night, but I honestly doubt it.

EDIT: I should also point out that I could NOT get 899282 from Microsoft. If anyone has the file, could they please send it to me so I can include it in the SP.

asfsipc.dll 1.1.00.3917
npwmsdrm.dll 4.1.00.3917
but I'm not sure at this point about where they came from.
Let me know if you would like them.

perhaps there was a problem with kb899282 that we dont know about that MS only knows and MS pulled it off their hotfix server
so is beta 6 ready yet?

Thought I'd give you all a nice little gift,
A fully working version! Yes, this means beta 6 is now available for download. I installed it on a fresh install and it works perfect. Link is temporarily here until MDGx uploads it to his server. I hope it works perfectly fine for everyone. If not, let me know.

-Added 922616 (hhctrl.ocx + reg entries) Replaces 896358 version
-Added 830460 (msvcirt.dll)
-Added new unofficial 918547 (gdi.exe + gdi32.dll) replaces 912919. Still unsure about leaving the 918547 files from MS (updated by an anonymous person).
For those wondering about where 832414 is, I removed it as it would require msxml 3 installed for WU to work.

dump the kb918547.exe and q918547.dll files. I've removed them from beta 4 of the 98fe SP2 which will be posted tomorrow morning.
also modify your mesp202en.SED file and edit the TargetWin9xVersion and the TargetNTVersion sections of the SED file to have the following:
TargetWin9xVersion=4.90.3000:%OSWarn%:0K
TargetNTVersion=0:%OSWarn%:0K
Then in the [Strings] section put this line:
OSWarn=This Service Pack is for Windows Millennium Edition only.
Starting from beta 3 of the unofficial 98FE SP2, when running the 98FE SP2 under other versions of Windows than Win98fe, a warning message will say "This Service Pack is for Windows 98 Standard Edition only." instead of the default message "The 'Unofficial Windows98 SP2' package is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running."
