+1 RLoew's patch fixes the size issue. The modified CDFS to show wavs is outdated, and generally less useful.

No it has not. Maximus-Decim did once include the WDMSTUB.SYS in NUSB 3.1, IIRR, but then he removed it. I can discuss the operation of USB20DRV in more detail, but fact is that if one installs NUSB 3.5, then adds just the files from USB20DRV.EXE manually, and then modifies the USBSTOR.INF to say <HKR,,NTMPDriver,,"wdmstub.sys,USBSTOR.SYS>, it'll work all right. The registry modifications that USB20DRV.EXE makes are not really needed and the USBHUB20.SYS it includes is required just for VIA chipsets... for all others, the one in NUSB3.5 is newer and better. In short, I'd just add USBEHCI.SYS, USBPORT.SYS and WDMSTUB.SYS from USB20DRV and modify the USBSTOR.INF, and that should be enough.

I just looked inside the NUSB package and all files from USB20DRV are included. The only thing I would have to do is load HKR,,NTMPDriver,,"wdmstub.sys,USBSTOR.SYS by default. I'm going to try and add it. I need a tester with multiple USB devices, because I won't release this to the public unless I know for sure its stable.

For what it's worth, I've been running NUSB 3.5 ever since its release and it hasn't failed me yet, except for the bluetooth dongle that probably lacks further OS support. Other 4 USB Flash sticks, 1 multi-SDHC card reader, 1 portable camera with SD-card and at least 3 other Flash sticks belonging to my friends (of which at least one was set as removable HDD by the manufacturer), have been detected and operated without problems. The Lexmark X1150 multi-function printer/scanner has its own drivers so it shouldn't count; neither should the USB mouse Trust MI-2520p - however they both work correctly too. Got no other USB devices that may help for testing purposes.

I should mention (again) however, that both motherboard chipset and USB-to-PCI adapter operate VIA chips. You may wanna wait for confirmation from someone with different USB chip or chipset, or different USB devices.

I think you enough devices for testing. hopefully I will get started on it sometime this week. I'm still going to release an update today. I want to call it final incase
I don't get the usb properly working. But if I do get USB support, I can always change the text in the files.

Because IE5 files was removed and to avoid errors you must have IE6 installed, not updated, but installed.

Hey Drugwash,

If you look inside IE_S3.CAB, inside of this cab is another cab named IE_3.CAB.
The MSXML files are there.
Also because I use the web installer only the core files get installed, which is what I like a lite system.

To be honest, when faced a choice, I've always chosen a full system. As I mentioned before, some applications are directly dependant on certain system libraries (and specific versions, at that), libraries that were only delivered with IE, at least initially. Despite my hazy memory, I vaguely remember having stripped down a 98SE system long time ago, removing IE and probably some other components; thereafter, many of my applications refused to run or even install, while others installed the missing libraries by themselves. The latter category is the most dangerous, because the file versions installed by those applications might be incompatible with the rest of the system, creating the well-known "dll hell".

For this reason, I've always distrusted and discarded any tools that offered to remove files from my system. At the same time, I've always manually added any missing dependancies, in an effort to make certain applications run despite their declared 9x incompatibility.

Adding to that my daily usage of an IE-based browser (as already mentioned minutes ago in the KernelEx thread), you can imagine I've always kept the complete IE6 package updated. No problems for a long, long time, until someone decided to change the standards. But that's a completely different story...

Since Win98SE updates page from Microsoft doesn't work any more, do we need these reg keys in the SP?

Those entries are there so the system, QFECheck, and whomeverelse may be interested may know the update state of the system. I use to add some more, for my own good bookkeeping. Removing them may do no harm, but what's the gain? < 1KiB shaved off the registry, even if you completely remove the whole QFE keys, including those that may already be there before the application of the service pack... I don't think it'd worth it. Of course, that's just my take on it. YMMV.

The main reason they were put there in the first place was because of Windows updates.
I figure since Windows updates is obsolete the reg keys would be too. But as you said no harm no foul either way. Thanks

It's no longer "beta", correct?

Also, thank you for this! I'm so glad to know that people still care.

EDIT: The file wouldn't open. An error occurred stating that it is not a valid Win32 application. What do I do?

Yes. I think the download messed up along the way...Opera lists the file size as approximately 40 MB, but the file itself is around 600 KB.

May I post a direct link to the file? I have trouble loading MediaFire on that computer. I've tried emailing myself the link, but the messages never go through.

EDIT:

I installed it, got a Blue Screen at shutdown. The computer would not boot afterward, so I used a Windows 98 Startup Diskette (which did not work).

The SP, however, appears to have disappeared (I still have the updates). I can't find it, and Add/Remove Programs does not list it.
