Hey Drugwash,

If you look inside IE_S3.CAB, inside of this cab is another cab named IE_3.CAB.

The MSXML files are there.

Also because I use the web installer only the core files get installed, which is what I like a lite system.

To be honest, when faced a choice, I've always chosen a full system. As I mentioned before, some applications are directly dependant on certain system libraries (and specific versions, at that), libraries that were only delivered with IE, at least initially. Despite my hazy memory, I vaguely remember having stripped down a 98SE system long time ago, removing IE and probably some other components; thereafter, many of my applications refused to run or even install, while others installed the missing libraries by themselves. The latter category is the most dangerous, because the file versions installed by those applications might be incompatible with the rest of the system, creating the well-known "dll hell".

For this reason, I've always distrusted and discarded any tools that offered to remove files from my system. At the same time, I've always manually added any missing dependancies, in an effort to make certain applications run despite their declared 9x incompatibility.

Adding to that my daily usage of an IE-based browser (as already mentioned minutes ago in the KernelEx thread), you can imagine I've always kept the complete IE6 package updated. No problems for a long, long time, until someone decided to change the standards. But that's a completely different story...

Those entries are there so the system, QFECheck, and whomeverelse may be interested may know the update state of the system. I use to add some more, for my own good bookkeeping. Removing them may do no harm, but what's the gain? < 1KiB shaved off the registry, even if you completely remove the whole QFE keys, including those that may already be there before the application of the service pack... I don't think it'd worth it. Of course, that's just my take on it. YMMV.

The main reason they were put there in the first place was because of Windows updates.

I figure since Windows updates is obsolete the reg keys would be too. But as you said no harm no foul either way. Thanks

Yes. I think the download messed up along the way...Opera lists the file size as approximately 40 MB, but the file itself is around 600 KB.

May I post a direct link to the file? I have trouble loading MediaFire on that computer. I've tried emailing myself the link, but the messages never go through.

EDIT:

I installed it, got a Blue Screen at shutdown. The computer would not boot afterward, so I used a Windows 98 Startup Diskette (which did not work).

The SP, however, appears to have disappeared (I still have the updates). I can't find it, and Add/Remove Programs does not list it.

Do you have IE6 installed?

Yes you have the latest. I was going to upload the same version because I thought maybe the installer got corrupted.

Hi,

I may have found a bug in "Intel® 82801EB (ICH5 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller -24DD" of my COMPAQ D530 after installed latest 98 SESP 3.0 FINAL.

The controller referred to USBEHCI.SYS 5.1.2600.1515(xpsp2.040410-0905). Fixing it I changed USBEHCI.SYS to v.5.00.2195.6882
