hi there

i have uPnP enabled router (linksys befsx41). my computer is not directly connected to it, but on switch, which is then connected to router.

sending and recieving files work without problem. and if this works, without any ports opened, why doesn't then vioce and video work? uPnP is also enabled on my computer. msn messenger version 5, latest firmware of router.

thanks for answer!

hi

im deffinetly not a pro, but work with msn messenger alot, so let me tell you what i know :)

i myself connected to the router directly and everithibg works fine, you should check if you have some kind of firewall that blocks UDP.

besides that as far as i know voice will work only if one person behind switch, and not both, so if you trying to communicate with someone behind switch, internet connection sharing or anything it will not work. well, thats all i can think of.

o, yeah, here is another reason why it doesnt work, it may not feel like working  (thats the reason it doesnt work on one of my work computers), so you may want to try windows messenger, or maybe even MSN 6 beta, that might fix the problem

good luck

hi and thanks for reply. i'm behind the switch and router and that stuff, the person with who i want to start voice/video is connected directly on intertnet with firewall disabled.

maybe you can give me your msn addy and we can work things out if you want to?

I've had the same prob on my linksys router, heres how you fix it:

Goto adress http://192.168.1.1 thne type ur password, next hit advanced, then goto forwarding and forward ports 6800-6900 to your LAN ip and hit the enable box, then you can also do the same in the port triggering page which is located at a button on the forwarding page..

Hope this helps..

I think this is a problem with MSN Messenger not properly controlling the routers UPnP functions. I have been able to get everthing going (video, file, etc) except voice without forewarding even 1 port!
