Huh, Most providers offer you the modem while you use the service. Are you sure? Did you ask them. I never heard of a company making you buy one. Well anyways circute city has one for 199 and best buy is selling the one I have which is a RCA. They all do the same thing so the cheaper the better, but I would double check with the provider and ask. Ohe get cable, you have no idea what your missing!

The provider gave me the option of buying it from them, renting one from them or purchasing my own.

Im not to familiar with Cable modems, so i wasenst sure if one was better then the other or if there were any good eals you guys had heard of.

How much extra was the rental fee? Consider your options.....You dont have any insurance if something happens to a modem you buy, but you do if they provide one.But go to bestbuy.com or check around....Most popular are the motrola's and RCA.
