Is the X2 3800+ or Opteron 165 better than any single core processor below $300 in single-threaded performance?

Both of those will be faster than a 3000+ s939. The x2 3800+ should be the same as a 3200+.

go for the 165 if u can find it anywhere, they can easily do 2.7
