Hard Drive and Removable Media issues Rules

problems with external hard drive will not power up Rate Topic: -----

hi, im having problems with my external hard drive. it will not power up, then i plug it in and turn it on all i hear is a ticking sound. its maxtor hard drive

Not enough power. What power supply are you using?

Ticking sound could also be a heavy damaged drive too. Do you have warranty on the drive? If so return it, if not; open the external housing and take out the drive to test it inside a normal computer (unless it’s a 2.5", then you need to buy an adaptor from 2.5" to 3.5").

I agree, ticking sound don't sound good, it could be disk malfunction. How old is it, do you have guarantee for this disk?

i took it out of the caseing and installed it into my pc, it works perfectly. so i think il just keep it in there
