I have some thermal paste that came with my heat sink and the thermal paste that i order and it been taking a long time to be shipped and i don't want to wait anymore becasue i have all of my pc parts so i was thinking to use the supplied paste that came with my heat sink for now and when i get my new stuff, can i scrape off the old stuff and apply the new stuff whould that be fine?

P.S Iv'e never done this before and was just asking before i do it.

i would try to find out how much longer you have to wait until you recieve the paste you ordered before doing anything.
but yes you can remove the old paste. just wipe it off the core with a napkin and clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol, reapply paste.

DigeratiPrime is right...I have also seen people sanding down the bottom of the heat sink till it was shiny like a mirror...and that helps a lot as well I have read.

dont use a napkin. the best is to use a coffee filter since it wont break apart like a napkin. i wouldnt use the tape tho, unless you want to just get things up and running and once the paste comes, then go ahead and put that on.

What do you mean by tape?

The stuff that came with my heat sink is high quality too i guss., i could just put this stuff on for now and just put the new stuff on some other time.

Go down to your local walgreens or walmart and buy dry lens cleaner. They cost about a buck or something. They are anti-static. You use any credit card or plastic you gonna end up scratching the bottom of the heatsink
