I have a doubt:

In my unattended XP i don't want to modify
the C:\Program Files directory.

So i have to ask you if the default installation
of the .NET Framework both 1.1 and 2.0
modifies this directory.

Thanks all.

:hello:

If 2.0 is installed, is 1.x needed to be installed as well?

no framework 2.0 wouldnt need 1.1 to be installed first. im pretty sure the .net framework doesnt install anything to program files dir although im sure someone here will be able to give a definite answer.

matthewk: That question is already answered, They are independant as ScubaSteve quite correctly states, but you should install both v1.1 and v2.0 to be fully compatible with all dotnet demanding applications.
