I've recently run into an issue, regarding drvindex.inf
I just moved into this job, and part of it is maintaining images for IBM Laptops. Basically 2 of the images do not automatically install pnp devices such as printers, cameras, etc. It prompts you for the location of various files, all of which should be included in drivers.cab, and can be extracted and it works properly, however this image is going on lots of student computers, and the issue needs to be fixed rather then worked around.
I know the image was created from a base XP build which did use the BTS Driver packs, and was pretty heavily modified with application installs, and reg edits, but I didn't personally make them so I don't have a ton of details. This same build was used to make approx 8 different images and all but two of them work properly.
However on two images, an IBM R40 and IBM T40 the drvindex.inf file is completely missing from C:\windows\inf\ I tried copying the inf file from a different computer, however windows still does not seem to be using it, and prompts for the same files that I know are located in drivers.cab
Any help would be greatly apprciated.
Posted in Unattended as the most post regarding drvindex.inf came up and thought this would be the best place to start.
Tks for any assistance.

Make sure in Dosnet.inf it has under [Files]
d1,drvindex.inf
and in Txtsetup.sif under [SourceDisksFiles]
drvindex.inf = 100,,,,,,_x,20,0,0
Dosnet.inf should be located in the I386 dir
May be missing from them for some unknown reason, anyways the image will have to be redone if you add them entries.
