Media Player Classic HC v1.2.908.0
I didn't know this version worked on Win98SE. Is it buggy, has anyone tested this? Is it better or worse than the classic version. Please shed some light my way.

MPC-HC is designed specifically for NTx OSes, particularly for Vista + 7 [the developer built it and tested it on Vista].
Therefore it won't work with 9x OSes, even if using KernelEx. :(

CCCP codecs pages have a Wiki guide for MPC:
http://www.cccp-proj..._Player_Classic

The Wikipedia page for MPC might also have some references you can use:
http://en.wikipedia...._Player_Classic

You could also try the older [but good reference] MPC HTML Help file:
http://downloads.sou...ng_20050402.zip

And when all else fails, there's always VideoHelp: ;)

Is it possible to disable all the internal/external filters in mpc thats intergrated
and add only the filters for the formats of media that, I will be using?
I read the internal/externals filters will automatically use the default filters from MPC.

Of course you can disable all internal filters in Media Player Classic: Options then Internal Filters.

With help of the KernelEx, I'm using clsid ffdshow version (from 10 April) - I don't have problem with various media files.

Btw, I don't recommend you to try MPC-HC - it doesn't work well on Win98SE.

Well, my Win98 "media kit" includes the following:
Latest supported K-Lite codec pack (don't remember exact version for Win 98)
I often don't use MPC from it, instead I use my favorite Crystal Player, which unfortunately is not developed any more.
Latest GOM Player and VLC as alternative players, I could play some DVDs only with them.
Flash Movie Player for flash.
1by1 - very tiny and cute audio player with a set of plugins.

How do I play this format H264.MP4 in Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1.
I don't want to install a bunch of codec packages and a million files just to watch a movie.

Use MPC's internal filter for MP4. The external Gabest direct show filter for MP4 is supposed to be the same as the internal filter. However, I haven't been able to get the external filter to work, even in MPC.

Do you have KernelEx installed?

If yes, you need just ffdshow instead of any codec packs.

I'm using xxl build from 25 July - you can get it from here.

The only problem is that there's no direct access to the configuration panel of it - you can configurate it only when you're playing video/clip.

If you don't like it, you can use older (from 2 September 2010) clsid build - it works smoothly.

Download link is here.

Of course it does, I have just tried it right now with the version you link to.

Perhaps you should type the full path to the ax file if it's not in the system search path.

Maybe it works for you because you have Windows Me.

That's odd, I wouldn't think there would be a difference between the two systems for that.

It didn't work for me either. maybe I need kernelex.
I'm trying run things without KernelEX.
I even tried the last version that work on Win98SE, FFDSHOW_REV1936_20080413_CLSID.EXE.
These files alone does not help, but thanks for the effort.

FFDSHOW.AX,configure
FFDSHOW.AX,configureAudio
ff_vfw.dll,configureVFW

I found the solution.

I first downloaded the DivX H.264 Decoder 8.2.0.26 from this site http://www.free-code...264_decoder.htm
After that, I extracted the file DIVXDECH264.AX. Then I registered DIVXDECH264.AX.
Now I have H.264 files without all that extra installing etc......Thanks

I just tried DivX H.264 Decoder Filter Version 9.0.1.21 and it doesn't work.
Gotta stick with DivX H.264 Decoder 8.2.0.26.
But the latest version of DivX.dll does Version 6.9.2.26.

Anyone know how to get the configuration properties working for DIVXDECH264.AX?
They are grayed out.

Which version exactly of Media Player Classic do you actually use?
Look "Help" -> "About" in the program, and look for revision number.
I have a version "revision 82", which works without KernelEx.
And I additionally actually test a "revision 107" from February 14th 2010; but this newer version seems to work only with KernelEx.

Mysteriously is the following: It does not work if I disable KernelEx for this version. But it works, if I activate the Win98SE(!) compatibility mode. What is the difference between the KernelEx "built-in" Win98SE compatibility mode and the "real" Win98SE?

Relying to your codec problems: Had you ever tried FFdshow-filters?

I'm using FFDShow rev2322_20081114 on Windows 98 without the KernelEX. The decoder configuration settings are available through the Start Menu or tray icon during playback. It appears the FFDShow is the fastest free h264 decoder available.

FWIW, with KernelEx, latest working (and splendidly so) version of MPC-HC is 1.5.1.2903 and requires to be put in "Disable Custom Heap" compatibility mode: http://sourceforge.n...1.2903_32 bits/

As for FFDShow the latest MSVC2008 build (rev3995_20111012) on http://www.xvidvideo.ru/, which is current, is all good: http://www.xvidvideo...95-x86-x64.html

They are grayed out.

It seems none of the DivX filters properties/settings pages do display. My guess is that those feature might be enabled for users who purchase DivX.

Does not work here. This is independent of the used compatibility mode.
Immediately after opening any video file, MPC-HC 1.5.1.2903 crashes. Even if I only try to change output options I get a crash; see the screenshot above.Attached File  crash_mpc.png   13.29KB   14 downloads

But maybe there is something other wrong.

I'm just mentioning this as an FYI, I see sourceforge_dot_net/projects/guliverkli/ is mentioned, but not the slightly updated:

http://sourceforge.n...s/guliverkli2/.

This is always the version I go for. I'm not really crazy about the way MPC_HC tries to roll it all together.

And yeah, there's a 9x version there.

I'm not sure if its an update inside SP3, but I got the properties to work. Heres what I did.

Load any MP4 video.
Stop the video.
Go to filters and click on the DivX H.264 Decoder Filter and change your settings.

These files from Windows 2000 SP4 also works.
