I just tried DivX H.264 Decoder Filter Version 9.0.1.21 and it doesn't work.
Gotta stick with DivX H.264 Decoder 8.2.0.26.
But the latest version of DivX.dll does Version 6.9.2.26.

Anyone know how to get the configuration properties working for DIVXDECH264.AX?
They are grayed out.

Which version exactly of Media Player Classic do you actually use?
Look "Help" -> "About" in the program, and look for revision number.
I have a version "revision 82", which works without KernelEx.
And I additionally actually test a "revision 107" from February 14th 2010; but this newer version seems to work only with KernelEx.

Mysteriously is the following: It does not work if I disable KernelEx for this version. But it works, if I activate the Win98SE(!) compatibility mode. What is the difference between the KernelEx "built-in" Win98SE compatibility mode and the "real" Win98SE?

Relying to your codec problems: Had you ever tried FFdshow-filters?

I'm using FFDShow rev2322_20081114 on Windows 98 without the KernelEX. The decoder configuration settings are available through the Start Menu or tray icon during playback. It appears the FFDShow is the fastest free h264 decoder available.

FWIW, with KernelEx, latest working (and splendidly so) version of MPC-HC is 1.5.1.2903 and requires to be put in "Disable Custom Heap" compatibility mode: http://sourceforge.n...2903_32%20bits/

As for FFDShow the latest MSVC2008 build (rev3995_20111012) on http://www.xvidvideo.ru/, which is current, is all good: http://www.xvidvideo...95-x86-x64.html

They are grayed out.

It seems none of the DivX filters properties/settings pages do display. My guess is that those feature might be enabled for users who purchase DivX.

Does not work here. This is independent of the used compatibility mode.
Immediately after opening any video file, MPC-HC 1.5.1.2903 crashes. Even if I only try to change output options I get a crash; see the screenshot above.Attached File  crash_mpc.png (13.29K)

But maybe there is something other wrong.

But the properties/settings work in WinXP.

I'm just mentioning this as an FYI, I see sourceforge_dot_net/projects/guliverkli/ is mentioned, but not the slightly updated:

http://sourceforge.n...s/guliverkli2/.

This is always the version I go for. I'm not really crazy about the way MPC_HC tries to roll it all together.

And yeah, there's a 9x version there.

I'm not sure if its an update inside SP3, but I got the properties to work. Heres what I did.

Load any MP4 video.
Stop the video.
Go to filters and click on the DivX H.264 Decoder Filter and change your settings.

These files from Windows 2000 SP4 also works.

H261_32.AX 5.0.2195.6611
H263_32.AX 5.0.2195.6611

I have deleted all codecs except for

CLVSD.AX 8.4.3427 [Play DVDs]
DIVXDECH264.AX 8.2.0.26 [H.264 Decoder]
FFDSHOW.AX 1.0.5.2032 [MPEG-4 Video Decoder]
L3CODECA.ACM 1.9.0.306 [MPEG Layer-3 Audio Codec for MSACM]
L3CODECP.ACM 3.3.2.44 [MPEG Audio Layer-3 Codec for MSACM]
L3CODECX.AX 1.6.0.52 [MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder]
LIBAVCODEC.DLL [Needed for FFDSHOW.AX]
LIBMPLAYER.DLL [Needed for FFDSHOW.AX]
VSFILTER.DLL 2.39.5.3 [Subtitles]

I have to say, this is very lightweight. I just thought I would share with you guys.

@ PROBLEMCHYLD
I would like to install only the MPC, and only after the additional codecs.
Could you indicate how to obtain the individual codecs that you specified?
Thank you.
I41Mar

P.S. In the past I have used the KLite V3.4.5 pack with MPC, but I want to rebuild the OS system with a better software.

I'll send them to you later. One package is a 150MB for one file. I avoid installing codec packs because of the unnecessary files installed.
I tend to remove files from my system especially if they are not needed. I have a thing for stripping down packages.
