Hi

Sorry if this is considered off topic. Given that many people around this forum may be running w98 in an old system - that's my case, i use winxp for the newer one - i thought you could help me.

I thinking of plugging a wifi card to my p133mmx, 48mb laptop running windows98SE + sp. Most manufactures require at least pentium II to run this devices. However, i've found some reports that talk about pentium machines being able to run certain models from compaq and belkin.(As a matter of fact, belkin does not state minimum processor requirements for a 54g model.)

Maybe some chipsets are better than others regarding resources consumption. Any ideas, experiencies?

regards.

Most WIFI cards work best with a Pentium 3 with at least 64 megabytes of memory. I wouldnt want to use WIFI cards on a slow computer less than a Pentium 233mhz cpu because it's so cumbersome.

and I've heard certain wifi cards run smoother under WinXP than in Win98se.

putting a WIFI card on a P133mhz cpu w/ 48mb RAM laptop is lame and the slow processor and relatively small memory compromises the speed benefits of WIFI cards. so using it on a very old and slow machine is not a good idea.
