allrighty then
recently i have been mucking around with winxp alot using installs under VMware Workstation so i dont screw anything up. and whenever ive had a problem i often tend to reinstall/create a new version under nlite and install because i dont have to worry about any problems it might cause.

and after doing a bit of mucking around with visual styles recently i have gotten extremely bored with the windows XP look and im thinking about patching the UXTHEME.dll
i hate windows blinds, it takes up too many resources and is slow and i want to be able to do everything without going thru a third party app
so ive come to the conclusion that i need to patch my UXTHEME.dll

ive read thru a few guides and read about what it does except because it would be disasterous if anything happened to the computer i find myself having to ask

is there any chance that it will make the computer un-bootable.
coz that would suck and i would be in a heap of trouble

i know that if i can boot the computer into safe mode all i have to do is delete the patched UXTHEME and put the backup up original back in place and everything (hopefully) will be hooley dooley

can i get any insight into this because otherwise i dont think i can afford to take the risk

I replaced my uxtheme.dll file manually, and have suffered no ill effects.

Provided you follow one the guides to do it manually, or use a tried and tested patcher program, you should be fine.

Also, if it does go horribly wrong (highly unlikely I think), dig out your original XP holographic disk, call up the recovery console, and put the original uxtheme.dll in its true place from the DOS type interface, then it should be happy again.
