[Help] How change drive a program points to

Hello, This will probably sound dumb but here goes...I added a second drive to my PC. Much bigger than the original boot drive. I was going to make the new drive the master but I cannot get the PC to boot when I make it master. Booting from the original drive everything works. I just need more storage. Everything is duplicated right now on both drives since I was originally going to use the new one. So I thought I would just make that the home drive for most programs. Is their a simple way in XP to change the programs to start from (in my case) E: instead of C:? Any help is appreciated.

No, not really failsafe way.

There is (just to change the app paths) the old, but still working COA2 app from PC magazine, (now you have to pay to download it from PC mag, but google for coa2.zip....)

Then, you could change the windows drove letter, but without knowing how you tried adding the new drive and installing to it XP, it is nearly impossible to help you.

Read here however:

WARNING, it's tricky business....

Okay here we go...

Boot your pc with your xp-cd und start the recovery console.

Now type:

fixboot c:

next type:

COPY x:\I386\NTLDR C:\
COPY x:\I386\NTDETECT.COM C:\

x: is your dvd/ cd-rom drive with the xp-cd.

At last type:

bootcfg /rebuild

Now it searches your installationfolder as in your case it should find e:\ and restores the boot.ini.

For more informations look at KB 291980.

Thats it i think...

have fun...
