1. Deleted \WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger in registry
2. Deleted \Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN
I know these were the wrong instructions, but they were the best i had at the time, now i have issues installing the MSN 6 preview dowloaded from microsoft (twice). I'm unsure if this is related to the previous issue.
I get the following error towards the end of the install:
"Could not open key:
UNKNOWN\Installer\Assemblies\Global. Verify that you
have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personel"
The install rollsback and i press the "finish" button and get hte
following error:
"MSN messenger setup has failed with error code: '1063'. Please go to
the MSN messenger website and download the software from there."
Once again i'll note that this software was downloaded from the MSN
messenger site. I dont see why there could be limited "access to that
key" as this is a home computer, and there are no admin restrictions
etc.
I tried resolving this by dowloading windows installer 2.0, however when I try to install that i get the message that "the specified service already exists"
Some help would really be appreciated, i havent been able to use msn for days
