Just been setting up Maya 7 by doing an administrative install then modifying the "Maya 7.0.msi" file to reflect some of the requirements we have.

The first is in regards to the license file (Maya uses Macromedia's Flex License Manager) and where it is located. As default, a folder is created in the root of the C:\ drive (irrespective of where it's installed) and the license file (aw.dat) is stored there, but we require the license files to be elsewhere.

So, under the "Property" table of "Maya 7.0.msi" there is "FLEXLM_DIR", the value of which has been changed from the folder mentioned before to a more suitable location for our needs. However, when Maya runs, it says it can't find the license file.

We then tried setting the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE to the correct value, but this still didn't work, Maya still couldn't find the license file (it seems it's still looking in the default folder).

Obviously, there are going to be very few people who have experience with Maya, although perhaps this applies with the free version (Personal Learning Edition) too, but if anyone is able to help it would be much appreciated.

Whoever would've thought it would be so difficult to license a product, we just want to change the location of the license file.

Hi
I dont mean to sound dumb or anything, but how do you go about doing an administrative install for Maya? Im merely after it to do it silently, all the settings can be as default.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Chippo
