PsiMoon314
Hi,When you first use the "Show icons for network UPnP devices" option Windows XP has to install additional items into Networking to enable this functionality,From the dialogs which appear this seems to be similar to the way that the Fax Printer service is installed. If you have a dial-up modem installed you might like to see you can install this.I think that something you have done to your XP install CD or your Windows configuration has broken this install mechanism. There is an article here which explains how to install the UPnP items via the Control Panel which might help:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=886257&SD=techKind RegardsSimon

RogueSpear
I never use UPnP, but thought I'd take a look at this. So I fired up VMware and fooled around a little. When I did what you described, it worked fine for me. It appeared as though XP went to the source CD to install the "UPnP User Interface". Why it worked for me and not you, I'm not sure.If this is for an unattended install, I would suggest looking up the WINNT.SIF entry that would enable installing the UPnP User Interface during the OS installation. If you need to get it up and running on a pre-existing install, perhaps going to Add/Remove Programs\Windows Components and manually installing it before clicking on the option to show icons would work.If manually installing it does not work, I would have to think that the installation and it's source are at fault. Perhaps something removed that shouldn't have been.
BoardBabe
Thank's. Im leaning towards your last point, thought i have touched very few files in i386 dir except upgrading flash and integrating the latest hotfixes, since a couple of "versions" ago where I did not have this problem...I have yet the troubled way to find exactly what caused this :/
BoardBabe
I'm picking up this issue again hoping for a solution. The error Im getting when clicking "show icons for UPnP devices..." disappears and all works if I do the following.Control Panel >> Add remove programs >> Add remove Windows Components >> Network >> UPnP (uncheck/uninstall)ThenControl Panel >> Add remove programs >> Add remove Windows Components >> Network >> UPnP (check/install)Why does this happen? Can I resolve it during UA?
moody
I had the same problem. This solution resolved it: KB941206.It looks like a network printer installation turned off the Upnp services. You need to go to add/remove windows components and turn the network services back on for upnp devices. If it is already on, then you may need to disable / enable it to correct any corruption of the upnp services. It took me a while to come to this solution. Hope this helps somebody.
