Hi every1

Until a few days ago everything was ok, running xp corp.edition, AMD 1.2 ghz, ATI 64mb AGP,20 gig HD, 526 mb RAM,CDRW,ZIP,cable modem.

the problems that I'm having are:

1.- the settings for power saving are to turn off monitor after 30 min and HD after 35, this is not happening, after the screen saver kicks in it goes to the welcome screen and never turns off.

2.- if I press the sleep button the comp goes to an state that seems to be sleeping but it won't come back from it, have to restart to gain use.

3.- the power button for some reason now is working as a restart button, to turn off the computer have to go to the back and shutdown the power supply completly.

I guess after installing something the registry got change producing these changes to my system, thinking this, I did a rollback 2 days back whe everything was working fine, but didn't work.

I know that in this forum there is people who knows very well the windows registry maybe you can help me fix these problems.

If anyone can help please post your suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

thanks for that page info, it was very usefull.

I think I found the problem, after installing from windows update the patch from microsoft for cdrw or for burning cds, something like that, my two cd drives (CDRW + CDRom) appear with a exclamation mark, wich they didn't have before, I try fixing this by uninstalling both and put the old drivers from the xp cd again, but now I can't see the cd from my computer, in other words I can't use them.

after booting windows find the new hardware and install the drivers from de HD, still have the ! mark but now they aren't availables as drives.

checking the properties for these cd drives the message i get is: "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"

Please does any1 has any suggestion to this problem.

Thanks

Have you tried to delete them from the device manager and reboot?Sometimes it seems these upadtes on windowsupdate are causing more promblems than before.

He needs to make sure to boot into Safe Mode to check for the phantom devices in Device Manager. He probably has more than one entry for his drives now, but the phantom devices won't show up in Device Manager unless he boots into Safe Mode.
