Hi
I'm working on a Win ME PC that boots into windows both normally and safe mode. However when it has finished booting there is just the wallpaper on display, no taskbar strt button or icons. Pressing ctrl-alt-delete brings up task manager but no programs are running and there appears to be no option to run any programmes. Pressing the F1 key has no effect and neither does pressing the windows key.
Any help would be appreciated
Brian

Check shell= line in system.ini, make sure it's set to explorer.exe

Try scanning it with a dos based antivirus. Fprot is a free one.

Also if you have a dos boot disk you can boot to dos and run C:\windows\scanreg /restore to try to restore a backup of the registry.

Another thing if it will boot into safe mode you can try running system restore.

And last but not least if all else fails the reinstall windows. :thumbup

Boot into DOS, delete the shelliconcache in \WINDOWS, and run WIN to get back into Windows.
