To Whom It May Concern,
I am creating a test email environment on my laptop and I would like to configure outlook to use my local machine (local host) as the mail server so that I may send email back and forth using a fictitious email account.
Is that at all possible and is it as simple as placing the host name in the mail server field?

You could install a mail server on your computer such as Pegasus Mail or ArGoSoft Mail Server. Argosoft is the easiest to setup but Pegasus is a better program. Seeing as its just for one computer though, then you may as well use Argosoft.

Ok would the mail server idea should work on Windows 2000..
What about for Windows 2003 Server... I actually had the mail server up and the associated dummy email accounts setup but when I configured the mail account on outlook I kept getting an error stating either it couldnt find the mail server or smtp connection or something like that
