Guys, is the only way to change certain icons like that of IE's to replace the shell32.dll file with a different one, or can I use a program, like Microangelo?

i think microangelo can do that, but windows probably will start screaming about changed files

Yes replacing with a hacked shell32.dll, or using the discontinued app called Yz`dock or something, that is if you're talking about Internet Explorer's toolbar button graphics

I believe you are referring to YzToolbar for changing the toolbar buttons.
I am not aware that its development has been stopped as it is still available at DesignTechnika.

Yz Toolbar can replace the Explorer and Internet Explorer icons with an on and off switch.

Sorry to jump in to the thread , but if i replace the icons using a hacked shell32.dll can i have the original as a backup and swap them over ?

sure , why not 
what i would do if i were u..
on your cd, make a folder called "backup" or "extras"
then add the files u want for backup in there, then just browse & replace them if needed

great ! thanks for the reply , looks like in gunna have a few files in that folder lol. Is there any way of possitioning the icons on the desktop by say [x,y] coordinates ? i want them to be at the bottom of the screen in the middle ?
