Was installing Office this simple?!! I thought there was a lot to do, like creating an administration point and going through Setup as normal to choose what you want installed, then using switches :)

Virus2k: where are you going to put that Official Switches list? Why is no one answering here to you???? :-)

I totally support your idea.

I had already slipstreamed Office XP to SP2.
When I did the slipstream it asked for the serial#.
By doing this it doesnt ask for serial#.
The instructions for doing this was on Binks site but its not there anymore.
This method installs Complete.

Very good idea, virus, all that stuff is cool, but some people (me for example :)) don't install their programs in c:\program files.
--> Do you know a switch defining install path ??? (of course certainly different for differents installers)

Example :
Program Name : Daemon Tools
Full : daemon.msi /QB /P=d:\soft\daemon

Thanks in advance.

AaronXP knows more than me about this stuff :rolleyes:

but i dont think you can define a path on silent installs thats why there silent lol
the programs will get installed into your default c:/program files on your pc or your default driver letter X/program files

or if your useing a diffrent laungage it will always go into your program files for that launguage of your os.

though its possible to change the path but i think that would screw witht he programs internals.
lets see what AaronXP has to say about this one. good luck.

Second thoughts ...

you could try this though its me and my weird thinking but i dont think it will work lol

start /b /wait %systemdrive%\Install\Daemontools\daemon.msi /QB "d:\soft"

if you have a d partition just for your appz then this should work.
if not wait for what aaronXP has to say. he knows more about it that me i have only been learning this stuff for 2 days.

I never needed to install apps on a different partition so I don't know. I will research it though!

Installshield is supposed to be the easiest one. When you create the setup.iss file you can define a destination drive and directory to install to.

But... if your test system for creating setup.iss files doesn't have a secondary drive/partition, then install it to the C:\ drive. Afterwards, open up the setup.iss file and edit the path.

Example:

[InstallShield Silent]
Version=v6.00.000
File=Response File
[File Transfer]
OverwrittenReadOnly=NoToAll
[{51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-DlgOrder]
Dlg0={51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-SdWelcome-0
Count=4
Dlg1={51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-SdAskDestPath-0
Dlg2={51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-MessageBox-0
Dlg3={51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-SdFinishReboot-0
[{51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-SdWelcome-0]
Result=1
[{51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-SdAskDestPath-0]
szDir=D:\Program Files\Kerio\Personal Firewall
Result=1
[{51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-MessageBox-0]
Result=1
[{51C8741C-4A91-42A6-B6A2-CB891F7398A1}-SdFinishReboot-0]
Result=1
BootOption=0

(if you're wondering how to create setup.iss files, see this page

(nullsoft + msi (it was of course not IS but msi in my previous post))

New : about wise installers that contains very cool info which could also be added :

MSI is there as Windows Installer, just below the Installshield link.

Do you know of any NSIS installers, so I could test on it (except Winamp)?
