I am using NT Backup on windows 2000 Professional. It is scheduled at Daily Incremental with User credentials. And it backsup One folder on drive D and saves the backedup file to another folder on drive D. It uses the Appends to Media option.

It was working fine until I removed that backed up file from destination. I do it at the end of every month to write it on CD and it automatically generates a new file there next time.

Now the Backup screen runs, calculate the no. of files to be backed up, but does not start the backing up process and terminates. The NT Backup Report shows following.

---------------------
Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File

Error: The device reported an error on a request to dismount the media.
Error reported: Unknown error.

----------------------

What might be the problem.

Microsoft has an article about this error and reccomends you install the latest Service Pack.

Hope it helps,

@Zartach thanks for quick reply, I will surely look at the link u provided. And I have SP4 installed at that system. Still there would be something else at the link.

Thanks again.
