clavicle
It is great news that you have zeroed in these few files for the stubborn behaviour of visual effects using nlite. I hope you find a solution pretty soon and we may all be relieved of manually setting the things right.
Camarade_Tux
I don't have any fid* file in drivers. However, I have reg tweaks I import at T-12 to set my visual settings and I have abolutely no problem with them.
i'm not ophiel
crap. i was afraid of that. it's kaspersky's kernel mode driver. bleh. this is strange. how can altering kaspersky's database change my visual fx settings?? i tested it many times.argh. just confirmed it IS kaspersky. i'm insane. remind me to not only disable, but completely murder AV when poring over harddrive logs.with just reg keys i can select the correct setting in the control panel dialog, but the settings aren't actually applied.are you sure your t-12 method actually applies the settings?i'm going to try your t-12 idea, but before i do, regedit doesn't work at that stage, right? Camarade_Tux
This is what I use:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ComboBoxAnimation]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\CursorShadow]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DragFullWindows]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DropShadow]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\FontSmoothing]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"DefaultByFontTest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListBoxSmoothScrolling]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewAlphaSelect]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewShadow]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001"DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000001[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewWatermark]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"MinimumMEM"=dword:00000054[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\MenuAnimation]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\SelectionFade]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TaskbarAnimations]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\Themes]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000001[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TooltipAnimation]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000"DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\WebView]"DefaultValue"=dword:00000000And regedit works perfectly at this stage. i'm not ophiel
i can't believe it, but it worked.then i tried it at t-39, and it didn't work. and of course we all know that after t-12 definitely doesn't work.**** tux, you rock. i have to try other stubborn settings now. lmao, it censored d-a-m-n Edited June 29, 2006 by i'm not ophiel
Camarade_Tux
Thanks. And I also know why it doesn't work at T-39.Take a look at this thread : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...amp;hl=regsvr32If you have opened the registry, you certainly noticed a "structure". This structure is not in hives but is in shell32.dll.Btw, I'll do some benchmarks this weekend. Of course, I did some before posting my idea but I got strange results because I didn't know XPize removes some low resolutions icons.I'll also see if I can get visual settings to work without reg tweaks. PS: I think nuhi tried this in RC7/RC8 but somehow it got messed up.So I have a question : which SP and OS do you run ? :woot: 7 stars !(1500th post )
i'm not ophiel
xp corp + sp2 yah, i wasn't surprised that it didn't work at t-39. what is interesting though is that it seems even at t-12 the structure of the registry isn't complete yet either.i tried doing my normal "other" settings at t-12 and almost all of them got overwritten.
