Autologoncount

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have a couple of questions:

What values can you use in Autologoncount?

I have tried to find what 99 does but I haven't found any answer or is it so simple that it autologon 99 times?

What happen if you set Autologon=Yes and have Autologoncount=0?

I have googled, searched this site but haven't found an answer... :(

Any help is appreciated. :)

/Rulle

The answer iss in the ref.chm help file.

Here's what's said about Autologoncount in it,

Syntax AutoLogonCount = integer

Value integer

Example AutoLogonCount = 5

Registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\

CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AutoLogonCount

Comments The value decrements after each logon, and WinLogon disables the feature after the specified number of logon attempts.

Requires AutoLogon = Yes and AdminPassword = password in Unattend.txt. If AutoLogon = Yes, WinLogon checks the value of AutoLogonCount. If the number for AutoLogonCount is greater than 0, WinLogon decrements the count and then checks AdminPassword. If AdminPassword = password, WinLogon uses this password to log on automatically. If AdminPassword = *, the user must enter a password.

If AutoLogonCount = 0, then WinLogon deletes AutoAdminLogon, AutoLogonCount, and DefaultPassword from the registry. During the next reboot, the user must log on manually.

Important

The function of this entry has changed slightly between Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Please review this entry carefully before using it in your answer file.

Make sure that the password for the master installation (that you plan to duplicate onto one or more destination computers) is blank.

You must reboot the computer to decrement the value of AutoLogonCount.

I hope it will help you.

Thanks, it helped a little bit... ;)

I still wonder why so many uses the value 99 (have seen this in this forum and other forums)? Do they really want to autologon 99 times? I just wonder why...

I think this is mainly due to the cut and paste effect.

I have also seen "99999" as value.

So maybe they do not know the simple way to make autologon last forever. :D

And those who put such value can be suprised when suddenly after 99 reboot, the password prompt appears :)

I'm not so sure about that. If you take a look at this post http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=134576

you can see that he really uses that value... That's weird.

I don't think I will tests to use that value and sit in front of the PC and watch what happens. ;)

I'm just curious, as always. You can never learn too much. :D
