On my computer ive been finding that when game use directX they tend to freeze for example when I run Unreal Tournament with DirectX it will freeze after a while but if i use OpenGL it works. Even games like AOE2 will freeze.

Pentium III

Do you have the latest drivers for your video card, sound card and so on. Also does your video card support the Direct X versions of the games.

DirectX 9.0c (not the june version though)
umm, i was using the latest drivers for my video card on 98se but it had problems so ive been trying different ones

The card should support the directx versions. Since it 2001 and UT is 1999 but i havent personly looked it up

I am refering ot the cards support direct x versions, such as my current on supports Direct X 9c and my older one supports Direct X 8.0 some of my DX9 games do not work on the card due to its lack of DX9 support

oh, well UT needs directX 7, AOE2 needs Directx 3 and Dplay 6.1
looking a nvidia website says it supports Directx 8.1

I changed motherboards recently but now Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition when run in DirectX 3d the frame rate is really low.

Motherboard: IBM 6266G6A
Celeron 700 Mhz
Geforce 4 MX 420 PCI
256MB RAM
Windows 98 SE

You said you changed motherboards -- did you install the needed chipset drivers for that motherboard?
