Basically every time I press the space bar a dot appears instead of a space

I know about the paragraph button. When I press it the paragraph symbol disappears but not the dots.

I have Office 2003 SP2

This seems to be one of those things that the solution is reaally obvious to, but I can't figure it out

Go to tools, options, and in View tab, uncheck Spaces under Formatting marks sections.
