I need some people to beta test this version before I make it official and replace the current download.

I got a bug here... Quite often when I run it, I get the "Windows Update Downloader has encountered an error..." meesage, and then WUD closes.

When i debug it with the Microsoft CLR debugger, I get the following error message:

Quote

An unhandled exception of type 'System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll

Additional information: Value of '-2147482548' is not valid for 'Value'. 'Value' should be between 'minimum' and 'maximum'.

CPU usage is still fairly high (8-10%) - maybe try only updating the GUI every 500ms or 1s? That's pretty much the time scale of what people are used to in more applications (Windows Update, Internet Explorer downloads, FTP clients, etc etc). The 100ms is too "in between" to be confortable to most users - it's not continuous enough to be smooth, while it's also not spaced out enough to be a timed update.

New build available, Version 2.21 Beta Build 256.

Minor bug fixes, higher efficiency.

Looks pretty good, but can I ask you a question? How could I customize it in order to receive Greek Windows Update downloads?

Just an Idea: what about WinXP ITA sp2 update?

One more question: why don't you find a way to auto-update the download lists? How can you add new updates once released by Microsoft?

Bye :thumbup

jcarle,
Works very well on XP-SP2.
I am using it now as I type.
Also how will we get a new update file for the latest downloads when they come out?

Cheers,
dare2001

All the update lists currently available come with the download package found in the main thread for WUD. We are looking for people to help us compile and maintain new update lists for other versions and languages like you've all requested, if you want to know how to help take a look this thread.

All update lists are included with the main download package. If we collect enough update lists, I may make each UL available as a seperate download from the main package.

What a fantastic and simple tool! I have run and tested on my Windows XP Professional SP2 (32 bit) with no issues/problems. Downloads are nice and quick. Excellent!

Thank you!

Mate, this is a brilliant little tool. Thanks very much.

Speedwise, it's excellent - maxes out my 1500/256k connection at 166.6KB/sec

Looking forward to seeing more UL files, especially 2003 & XP x64. Wouldn't mind seeing Office & Exchange UL's too. If I get time, I'll try to compile a list

Very cool tool. This is very helpful for those of us that don't have the bandwidth available to get Autopatcher, and only want SOME updates, not all.

Hope development continues. Looks great, and is very easy to use.

edit: 200th post!

I'm writing italian version for WinXP 32bit (tomorrow I'll post it).
jcarle, what about a new feature to auto-update update lists ?!?
And what about a new feature to sort updates by year-month to let users find the last updates they need?

Anyway, great work, small exe... really good !!! :D

This is a great program. Any chance the program could detect which updates are already in the download folders so that when we get the new UL file it can automatically select the new updates?

Uhm, I think it's not so easy: if you start with a nLite'd os or one with slipstreamed hotfixes, you don't find them in download folder but they're installed. Maybe watching some system file and/or registry?

I'm intending on using this instead of microsoft's SUS.(i.e. storing these updates on a server so that any system I build can just check the update store) So for my purposes it would only have to check the download folder.

If I want updates for my own system I just use Windows Update.

That's undecided, could be a possibility.

Already implemented. Once the UL is loaded, it sorts the list based on the publishdate.

I am looking into adding this feature. I have to make sure that the app is stable as is first, then, I will implement this.
