Doctor Trout
I've just made another nLite disc. I've never really had any problems before, but this time, whenever I click "open with", I receive this error:"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."I'm not sure what it is I've done to do this. Has anyone come across this before? Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this, or how to put it right? Edited August 27, 2006 by Doctor Trout
LeveL
If you remove IE that happens when you click an URL.To fix that (to open with a browser of choice like Firefox or Opera etc) do this...01 - Start > Control Panel > Folder Options02 - Click the "File Types" tab.03 - Highlight the fourth IE icon in the list, it is called... (NONE) URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol04 - Click "Advanced" button05 - Highlight "open" in the Actions list06 - Click "Remove" button and click "Yes"07 - Click "New"08 - Type "open" into the first box09 - Click "Browse"10 - Navigate to your browser of choice in Program Files (Firefox or Opera, etc)11 - Click OK on that box and OK on the next box.I don't know of any registry tweak to fix this but I am sure thats possible(pre-configure for Firefox or Opera).-------------------------------------------------------------------If you're opening a file and it says "This file does not have a program associated withit for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."Thats wierd if it is not happening with URL's then what file are you trying toopen and getting that message? You don't get "Open with..." on right clickingURL's, thats whats so annoying about it, thanks M$ Thats why you haveto do all those steps above. If it is not an URL, I can't help you! I have never seen that on anything other than URL's when IE6 is removed. Edited August 27, 2006 by LeveL
Doctor Trout
I haven't removed IE6.I'm getting the error when I right click ANY file and click "open with".All my files open fine, unless I right click and click "open with" to open them with a program that isn't the default application. I'm going to have a play in control panel. But this is a bit weird.EDIT:Um, just thought I'd say my problem a bit more clearly - I can't open the "open with..." dialog box, basically. Doctor Trout
Actually, sorry about that, I think it may have been one of my reg tweaks that broke it not nLite at all - reinstalled, and everything was back to normal.
nuhi
LeveL, I see you got into the issue yourself, I am annoyed by the fact of the HTML association loss after IE removal, gotta do something with it.But the weird thing is that if you run Firefox early after setup and choose it as a default browser all is fine, it's something else that is locking me out later on.Doctor Trout, yeah, nothing in nlite ever caused that so far.
