Every time I reinstall Windows XP and updating it through Windows Update Site, it shows the message as
“Windows Update is downloading and installing the updated software”
What is this updated software and from where I can get it. Or once I have updated software, how can I store it to some other location so that I don not have to download it every time.

i wrote a little guide you may like to check out. it shows you how to download, backup and even create your own little makeshift "service pack" (although not a real one, but it does the job) i have used it on 3 XP computers so far, and it worked just fine. i even packaged it into an EXE file and i just run that, then it goes through and installs all the windows updates.
