hello. i am new here and have been having some problems. my os is windows 98se and my browser is ie. i began getting a error msg. (error 226 ,,, followed by a group of different numbers). i do not have spyware dr. on my computer, i have ran my avg virus ,,, among other things. the msg. appears when i try to open a new window. i can click on the 'ok' box and the window opens fine. i can reboot and the problem goes away ,,, for a little while. then i started getting this msg. ,,, "cannot fine import, DLL may be missing, corrupt or wrong version file "soref.dll, function "Post Main U" (error 0)". so many things are happening now that i cannot even remember them all. the last msg. happens when i try to open certain programs. it also appears on startup. i am not a computer expert ,,, i am just a beginner and desperately need help. i was told in another group that i belong to that this problems are only going to get worse. i am ready to throw my computer out the front door!!

any help would be greatly appreciated. i just need to be able to understand any advice given. thank you so much for listening.

Looks like you hve some spyware or adware on this pc. Do you have spybot installed or ad adware
this is one of the progarms that might be giving you trouble it is called Registry Cleaner

Get Nirsoft's Current Process. Launch it and select Explorer in the top pane. Then chose Select All in the lower pane. Choose copy and paste the result here. And do the same with Internet Explorer if you can.

hello. first of all, i had spybot and registry cleaner both on my computer and removed those. thanks for telling that those could be my problem. we will see.

it did not look this long when i ccp'ed it though. but that is the results i got.

i will be watching to see if this gives anyone a clue to what is going on.

i just dl'ed spywareterminator and ran the scan. the results were that i had 596 'critical objects'. i removed alot and have it down to 8 critical objects. i hope i didn't delete anything i need! but in the instructions it said if i did, i could get them back. maybe this was my problem. i will let you know if things get better. i have also been getting the 'illegal operation' msg. hope it stops!!

spybot would not be a problem but registry cleaner would. might remove smileysource.exe also.

If you are getting an error on a program that you use just uninstall the program and reinstall it.
Might also clean out your windows temp folder. If you have any adware that is there it will reinstall after you reboot.

If you have installed and unistalled alot of program over the years
they leave behind alot junk. Might install RegCleaner and run.

There is too much junk running on that computer. You can easily cut that list by half or more.

QuickTime Scheduler : Probably not needed (can be disabled in Quicktime options)
Real Player Scheduler : Probably not needed (can be disabled in RealPlayer options)

Are sure you need to run all those antispyware/security stuff in the background when you don't even run a firewall ? a-squared Anti-Malware, Computer Associates Dashboard Tray, eTrust PestPatrol, SPYCATCHER SCHEDULER DAEMON, 3AVG processes.

Do you actually need the Rockwell WaveStream Message Server services (MSG32.EXE and MSGLOOP.EXE)
running all the time ?

Is that QMgr Loader really needed ?

What's that ENCMONTR.EXE running for ?

Why is Rundll32.exe running ? You'd better know why it is running as it could be running anything dodgy

Do you use the Microsoft® Windows® Task Scheduler ? If not, disable from startup.

Are you sure you need Winzip in the tray all the time ? If not, disable from startup.

Are you sure the Netropa processes for your keyboard are all compulsory to run ?

What do you run HID Audio Service ? What is it ?

What is HPSYSDRV.EXE running for ?

Do you run SMILEYSOURCE.EXE all the time ?

What a mess !
