That list is awesome!

But I guess my questions/comments are usefull for the noobs out there:

- is it best to install all those updates even if you don't experience any problems on your pc

- writing (critical) next to the important security updates would be appreciated

- I hope some one has every update backed up offline and maybe on another webhost in case Microsoft decide to pull all Windows98SE files from their site

Keep up the good work guys! :thumbup

All fixes not available from M$ and all those still available from M$ are here:

http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm

- WMP Updates:

http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm

- 3rd party Drivers:

Same goes for Windows 3.x, 95, ME, NT4, 2000, XP + 2003:

:thumbup Great to hear!

I usually only install:

Windows Installer 2.0

IE6 SP1 + June 2006 cumulative update

DX9c October 2006 Build

Media Player 9 + update

I use Firefox & Opera for Browsing and Thunderbird for emails

I have a Firewall & use AVG 7.5 Anti Virus

This being the case, am I leaving my self open by not installing any other critical updates?

Not if you are very carefull......just like you don't need seatbelts if you drive careful.....

I mean, you really never know so if I where you I would at least instal critical security updates. There are others besides the ones for IE, like WMF and MDAC. You don't gain anything if you don't install these.

Thanks for the links for 280448, and the info about 318307 --- is there any information about 280448? I still don't know exactly what it is and the problem its supposed to fix ... anyone, anyone?

That list is awesome!

we try our best.

Good idea, i'll add them soon ...

Lots of people will still be making them available, and I can guarantee you that every single update can be found in the autopatcher package.

see this Toshiba Europe support page, soporific. they have some info on what the Q280448 patch does for Win98se.

I would install Q276602 hotfix first before installing Q280448 since Q280448 has version 4.10.2228 of the pci.vxd file and 280448 contains only the newer pci.vxd file while 276602 has ios.vxd (4.10.2224), mshdc.inf and pci.vxd (4.10.2227) files.

Just a heads up that 888113 is replaced by 920670. - the_guy
thanks heaps man.
Q276602 is in the list of hotfixes section and also in the obselete section which is it?
I have cleared up the confusion - q276602 is back in the main list (i've determined its a good idea to install it because of mshdc.inf which is not installed with any other hotfix. The inf file looks like it could be useful in certain circumstances.)

23rd Nov 2006:

Added to Main list: kb834158, q280448

Moved from Main list to obsolete list: kb888113

Moved from obsolete list back to Main list: q276602

Please thank the following for the latest additions: erpdude8, the_guy, & problemchyld

Hey Soporific, the link to your thread is saved as my Bookmark. So whenever i suspect that you might have updated some stuff i check it right from my bookmarks. May be everybody else would have done the same. :)

I am attempting to install the SecurityUpDates for IE v6 but when attempting to do the "Ie6upd.exe" it tells me I need to have the IE v6 first. I do have it installed on my system with SP1 and internet tools. SYSInfo shows "IE 5 6.0.2800.1106" where should I start?

Thank you for reading my message,
