When trying to access the computer WinXP SP2 called TOMI from another computer in our LAN I get the following error:
Attached File  network1.png (10.41K)
Number of downloads: 43

And this is how the share on the computer called TOMI is set up:
Attached File  network2.png (14K)
Number of downloads: 24

What am I doing wrong, since I've done this thousands of time and it always worked. What is wrong now?

Check your NTFS permissions (the Security tab). They are separate from the sharing permissions.

Do you admin the network? If not, maybe ask the admin if some new policies have been applied.

Ensure that none of those other entries have DENY checked. Deny overrides Allow.

Here are some more things to try:
Check the Event Viewer
Reset that user's password
Check the RSoP
Check local policies
Ensure that TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Service is running
Do a "gpupdate /force" on both machines
Try rebooting :)

U just gave me the idea! Since I have a passwordless login WinXP SP2 automaticly denies all access to drives. And thus I had to change GPEDIT.MSC LIMIT LOCAL ACCOUNT USE OF BLANK PASSWORDS TO CONSOLE ONLY to FALSE
and now it works

LOL! Yeah, a blank password will certainly cause sharing problems.

But preSP2 WinXP or any Win2k or Win2k3 SERVER dont have this issue with blank passwords! Apperantly MS had to protect its consumer windows :)

Hi, I have the same problem that BigDaddy had, yet his solution did not work for me.
I'm within VMware at the moment and have the following Services Started/Auto:
Computer Browser
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Access Connection Manager
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Routing And Remote Access
Security Accounts Manager
Server
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Terminal Services
Windows Firewall
Workstation

All I have done is run the Network Setup Wizard on both PCs successfully and set a few folders for sharing. My fiancee's system can browse my shares, but I can't browse hers.
Actually, I just added another share on my PC and she can still access the first one, but not the second one. This doesn't make sense.
And this is also happening on my local system, not just VMware.
We're both running Windows XP Pro SP2 totally updated.

Are either of you able to view the other computers via their IP address instead of their NetBIOS name? It might help track down where the problem lies (if it's in the NetBIOS resolution, or the computer settings).

Also - can either of you ping the other computer by their NetBIOS name? Do you get the proper IP?

Zxian, thanks for your help via MSN.
For all to know, my solution is as follows:
Start > Run > control userpasswords2, Advanced Tab > Advanced > Users > Disable Guest Account.
Reboot PC.
Accessing Windows Shares should now prompt for a username and password, and if entered correctly, you get access to all the shares! :thumbup
