I like many people went to bid on Ebay and Bam I try to finish one of many manual Snipe bids and instead of winning I get nothing but the same screen. This would commonly occur when I am in the users MyEbay screen but now it is in the the final pages before you finish a bid.

What in tarnation did they do and what can I do unincluding upgrading to another browser or "upgrading" to IE7 SP?

I am trying to avoid spyware so I do not update my browser. About getting another browser I heard Seamonkey was good for starters and this ARACHNE DOS Browser.

I heard the new Web "standards" have changed rapidily over the years and it's going to get worst.

AFAIK, there is no eBay ActiveX. My last winning bid was just a few days ago and I noticed nothing wrong.

You're doing the exact opposite of what you should do to not get spyware... And since you're on IE, you're bound to get them, no matter what version.

There are many choices. SeaMonkey, K-Meleon, Firefox and Opera. See which one you like best. :)

Typical FireFox propaganda right there...

For the record, I have a secured IE6.0 that has not managed to infect itself.

Firefox? I use SeaMonkey.

Secured? Right... It's widely known and documented that it's full of security holes.

Well I used FireFox before and then I used a NoAdware and it spotted FireFox as a worm. That is why I reframe from using Firefox anymore.

I am using Seamonkey( which is really nice ) but I still don't get what they did to make my IE4 to sit shiva like that.

About Viruses I find that not visiting porn rings and Xing out of multiple loading pages or using Ctrl+Alt+Del at the right time will stop them in there tracks.
