problem with kb891711 update

Recommended Posts

This is a bit of a stab in the dark, but I had a friend on a 98 system years

ago tell me he kept getting out of memory errors on a machine that had

very little hard drive space left on it, & was in desperate need for a defrag..

Could the out of memory error be related to page file.?

Just a stab, Not sure if it's related...

These Win98 errors can be so general as far as

what the REAL problem might be...

no way. My 120 GB hd is almost empty. But I have some mysterious issues with the internet for a while. And my system is 3 years old. I don't worry.
I wasn't referring to your post when your post was an internet connection

problem, totally irrelevant to my post..

I was referring to the original posters problem {Ambassador} about an out

of memory error..

Well I have more than 50% space left, and I did a defrag not that while ago. Maybe I should run a scandisk?

just checked, and the KB891711.exe and Kb918547.exe files are windows files.

Version are:

KB918547.exe - 4.10.0.2224

Q918547.dll - 4.10.0.2224

KB891711.exe - 4.10.0.2227

Q891711.DLL - 4.10.0.2223

hey guys. I had a cold and a flu several days ago but now I'm feeling better

unofficial U918547 patch from MDGx site has KB918547.exe & Q918547.dll version 4.10.2226 < created by "anonymous" person

I ditched Microsoft's KB918547 fix and the previous U918547 patch that has the KB918547.exe & Q918547.dll files because they're replaced by a newer 918547 patch that has newer GDI.EXE & GDI32.DLL files that provide the same fixes as previous 918547 updates.

K_O_ & Ambassador: run Scandisk from native/pure DOS mode first. then run defrag (BE sure to replace the defrag.exe file with the WinME version as the ME version of DEFRAG.EXE re-arranges files MUCH FASTER than the 98se version).

the page file limit (aka. the swap file or virtual memory) can be up to 4 gigs

"out of memory" errors are sometimes caused by low system resources (system, user, gdi)

when system resource memory is low, out of memory errors may occur

And what about adding the KB918547 fix INF to the latest version Q918547

IRRELEVANT! Not applicable. see my latest post in unofficial 918547 fix thread:

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...77218&st=15

I have uninstalled KB891711.EXE because I got a BSOD after updating to the newer version (MDGX thread).

Not sure if it's KB891711.EXE because I made all the 'MDGx' updates since last months at the same time but my internet conection became very slow, my browser slowly responding to clicks, system tired... then I decided to kill the KB891711.EXE task and got BSODed.

I suspected KB891711.EXE to slow down my DSL connection before. I can't say for sure it's that but since I uninstalled everything seems relatively normal.

As LLXX said, it would nice to evaluate the real need for this patch.

...And maybe the "mysterious anonymous author" could take a nickname. That would relax the tension.

Unless he wants to make a myth of himself.

"Killing" KB891711.exe file causes BSODs. Use EndItAll to safely close KB891711.exe.

antivirus and firewall apps are more likely to slow internet connections than with the kb891711.exe file. that's why I turn off on-resident, TSR or real-time antivirus protection

I did remove KB891711.exe from Startup and my AT&T Yahoo DSL internet connection showed NO improvement (and when I installed the 891711 patch I had NO slowdown). in other words, removing or installing KB891711 did not affect my DSL connection.
