I already know how to enable the quick launch toobar, but I would like to disable the use of the following icons in the Quick Launch. When you create a new user they are populated automatically. I looked in the def user profile under application data\Microsoft\internet explorer\Quick launch and the folder does not exist. i am working with windows 2000 and again qould like to keep the quick Launch but disable these icons from auto populating new profiles. thanks in advance for any responses.

You're right, how bizzare.
I don't know about stopping the populating of the icons but you could
run this in a CMD or BAT file on the new user profile to delete them...
Might not be the exact names since you're on Win2000 but be aware that "Show
Desktop" is not a shortcut, it is a .SCF file not a conventional .LNK shortcut.

DEL /F "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Show Desktop.scf" DEL /F "%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Launch Internet Explorer Browser.lnk"

Hi,
Does the addition of /F force deletion, because certain icons of mine are proving a little rebellious.
laze.
