I have also created a similar iexpress installer for NT4/2000/XP Pre-SP2 [experimental, please test]:

File [129 KB, English]:

P.S.:

Same here, I don't think "Dynamic DST" applies to 9x OSes.

HTH

there is a thread about the 2007 daylight saving time zone adjustment for win2000 in the Hotstream forum.

note to MDGx: ALL Win95 & Win98 users MUST install all year 2000 fixes & the timedate.cpl Q237493 hotfix before installing the unofficial Q928388 DST time zone registry fixes

minor correction: DST is daylight saving time, not daylight savings time - common mistake most people make

It updates all time zones if necessary for year 2007 and adds some new. You can download the complete list of changes from my previous post.

Please note that the time zone names are in English.

* Unofficial Windows 95/98/ME 2007 U.S.A. Daylight Saving Time (DST) Time Zone Update:

Thanks for this hotfix MDGx !! But can i suggest a better name for the update --- it does more than update the USA Time Zone DST settings ... it seems to do the entire world!! People not living in the US might think its useless to install, but its not....

For example, the Greenwich time description is updated from just 'Casablanca, Monrovia' to 'Casablanca, Monrovia, Reykjavik' --- in fact this is what autopatcher looks for to see if the update is installed. I've called the update the "Unofficial 2007 Updates to Time Zone Daylight Saving Time Settings" --- I think having the word USA in the name would be a mistake. But this is a little thing really. Still, HTH.

While we're talking about time zones ...

For the Unattended Boot Cd for Windows 98se v4 that I'm working on, i've added the ability to choose your time zone before installing the OS. It's all done in DOS and i'm not really keen to include every single time zone there possibly is. The option screen is busy enough as it is...

I'd be interested to know if the list I have so far would be sufficient for most (if not all) the people that might want to use it. This list is:

CLS
echo.
echo. *** Time Zones *** (only the major time zones are shown)
echo.
echo. U1 Pacific Time (US & Canada) -08:00 A2 Islamabad, Karachi +05:00

So I have exported all registry entries after KB928388 applied and converted them to Windows 9x format and created both complete and update both reg and inf files, see the attachment:

kb928388_9x.zip

Can Windows 9x use "Dynamic DST" information? Probably not.

Petr

I have created a Time Zone update [iexpress installer] for Windows 95/98/ME [all editions] based on Petr's REG + INF files:

This Update also deletes obsolete 2006 Australian DST registry changes (if any):

Do the files really have to be that huge? Anything over the size of the .reg file posted above just doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, I totally agree, this is going to completely use up all my unused monthly data allowance, AND totally saturate my bandwidth for my ADSL2 broadband connection (with theoretical speeds up to 3mb/s).

I mean, what were you thinking MDGx? The original reg file is about 14,000 bytes which is a whopping 1% of the size of a floppy disk, and your hotfix is 67,000 bytes, a massive increase of about 400% which now would take up over 4% of a floppy. Outrageous !!!

(just in case: :P )

(just in case: the hotfix has already been added to autopatcher, thanks heaps for your efforts to provide easily installable hotfixes for the non-computer heads of the world, you are a legend)

oh quit whining, soporific! SHEESH! MDGx's unofficial 928388 patches are small anyway. why complain about a bunch of relatively small byte sizes? the difference between 14k bytes and 67k bytes are almost insignificant

and my DSL connection is only up to 384 Kbits/sec and no faster

Excuse me erpdude8, this update is valid only for United States?

like Petr said, it's for ALL parts of the world - not just for the USA

note that MDGx also made an unofficial 928388 patch for WinNT4/Win2000/pre-XPSP2 systems as M$ didnt release any 2007 time zone fixes for these older Windows systems.

please re-read my post, because there is supposed to be humour there, not criticism. I have an ADSL2 connection --- 3mb/s in theory, and about 2mb/s in practice. That's right, more than a floppy disk every second. Which is why I made the calculations above based on the size of a floppy.

SHEESH!!!

It is the same as KB929120, which states the following:

The update for the West Australia time zone that is described in this article is not included in the 2007 time zone update for Microsoft Windows operating systems that will be released on December 12, 2006. The West Australia time zone change was passed into law after the 2007 time zone update for Microsoft Windows operating systems was created. We recommend that you install both updates to make sure that you have the most current time zone data on the computer.

@ Mdgx:

In Q928388.inf:

[TZ]

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones",,0,"Pacific Standard Time"

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Dateline",Display,0,"(GMT-12:00) International Date Line West"

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Dateline",Std,0,"Dateline Standard Time"

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Dateline",MapID,0,"24,25"

There isn't Pacific Standard Time, but Dateline Standard Time, no?

Maybe it's an unnecessary string.

Please see where it is placed - it is in HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones" key, not in HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Dateline".

It seems that HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones" contains default time zone for given language version of Windows 98, English version contains "Pacific Standard Time".

Ok, all right!

1) And these lines?

Can I leave them?

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\AUS Eastern Standard Time (Commonwealth Games 2006)"
HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Tasmania Standard Time (Commonwealth Games 2006)"

1. I wanted to rename the 1st TZ update the way you suggested, but now that M$ released the new WA TZ update, each update needs to differentiate from the other by name, so I left in place the original names.

Please take a look here:

http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#TZU

2. Time Zones selection from DOS, nice work. :thumbup

Does anybody know if this fix: KB928939 Western Australian Daylight Savings Changes for Microsoft Windows for the Year 2006/2007 is already contained in 928388 or not?
I have noticed this update this AM [released by M$ December 5 2006].

I have created 2 fixes for this: 1 for 9x + 1 for NTx OSes.

Please take a look [the 2 unofficial Q928939 updates]:

http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#TZU

BTW:

All 4 unofficial updates install all TZ updates from similar INF files [1 for 9x + 1 for NTx OSes].

They also delete the obsolete 2006 Australian Comonwealth Games TZ update.

All details at link above:

http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#TZU

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\W. Australia"

2) Can I delete all Dynamic DST values?

1. Those lines delete the obsolete 2006 Australian Commonwealth Games DST update.

The DST date + time was changed due to those Games only at that time, after which the "normal" DST date + time will be restored in April 2007, therefore these registry entries are not needed anymore after April 2006.

2. The Dynamic DST values are only for NTx OSes [NT4/2000/XP/2003/Vista].

They don't do anything in 9x OSes [95/98/ME].
