vLite 0.6 beta - Wiiiiiiii Vista Component removal and bootable ISO creation

Due to a problem I have been having since I started using nlite 1.2.1
the browse dialog is broken, only "Locate the Windows Vista install files"
text and the ok and cancel buttons in an otherwise barren grey dialog box.
(All save/open type dialogs displayed by 32bit programs are broken in some way,
64bit ones are fine)

first off thanks,
second off , if you need an alpha tester, I'll hose my system for it
then fix it right back up, and be ready to go again in an hour. lol
But I was wondering if any DRM can be removed, along with trusted installer services.

i got the error that a service cannot be installed and so i cannot install windows. i think i found the bug with the filemanager. if the files are write protected u will get these message. if you change it the message is gone.

When removing Search Indexer, besides
\Windows\winSxS\x86_windowssearchengine.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_en-us_8cee37712b17ca53
these file is also removed:
\Windows\System32\tquery.dll
that is required by Microsoft Sysprep 3.14
One of the sysprep plugins in Vista RTM uses tquery.dll and its \En-US\tquery.dll.mui from System32. The assembly itself is safe to remove.
The workaround is to manually restore them from the original WIM.

Mcfly000, well it could be but also try to get CDImage.exe somewhere from the net and make ISO with it, use boot image from vlite's root folder
Hanschke, fixed in the upcoming version
dexter.inside, thanks. And I know what you did last summer.

hehe, I see you like NT 5.x being deployed with the beta-1 WIM and the longhorn setup. I like it better than Norton Ghost
so here's the other possible bugs i've been investigating this week:
1) Media Center is missing .NET 1.0.3705
There's this Media Center problem that keeps annoying me.... vLite has removed a certain component (not sure which) that has also removed the following: (as stated by HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs)
\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\mscorrc.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\mscorsec.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\microsoft.vsa.vb.codedomprocessor.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\microsoft.jscript.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\iehost.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\pxwma.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\pxcpyi64.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\system.data.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\diasymreader.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\wminet_utils.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\mscorrc.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\system.configuration.install.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\mscordbi.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\system.enterpriseservices.dll \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\vsavb7rt.dll
I do not think that it was your intention to cripple the 1.0.3705 .NET, so something is odd here.
Furthermore, pxwma.dll is required AFAIK by a certain part of the WMFDIST11, and I think it is related to the MPEG playback problem. Media Center crashes due to not being able to perform it's scrpting operations via the missing DLLs.
2) There's a missing assembly that shouldn't be missing
I think Windows Servicing Stack causes problems to the prefetch funtionality due to the absence of
\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16386_none_07289f4cca5f6990
I am not getting a Event Viewer response on this. More people should check this.
Check HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Version\6.0.6000.16386
3) Windows Help files are still registered for a MMC snap-in
Specifically, MSCs that load these three snap-ins cause small delays (the "adding snap-in" notification) because of:
\Windows\Help\eventviewer.chm in HKLM\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns\FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510}\LinkedHelpTopics
\Windows\Help\taskscheduler.chm in HKLM\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns\FX:{c7b8fb06-bfe1-4c2e-9217-7a69a95bbac4}\LinkedHelpTopic
\Windows\Help\taskscheduler.chm in HKLM\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns\FX:{c7b8fb07-bfe1-4c2e-9217-7a69a95bbac4}\LinkedHelpTopic
My Event Viewer is significantly slower when using it than the rest of compmgmt.msc components
4) Windows Sounds
removing Windows Sounds does not remove these:
\Windows\media\tada.wav in HKU\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\Explorer\FaxSent\.default \Windows\media\ding.wav in HKU\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\Explorer\FaxError\.default
5) Removal of Windows Error Reporting should also remove the WER registration
(user-account)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue is no longer created so
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\VolumeCaches\Windows Error Reporting Queue Files\Folder
should be removed in order to prevent the ReadyBoost service to cache it. I also think that this is related to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\APITracing\LogFileDirectory
I still have arround 80 extra issues that I am investigating this week. I will continue the listing when I will have more time.
P.S. This thread is way more entertaning than the one that I've been seeing for the past 8 months in Vista Beta

now it's 100% bootable and i wonder why your program didn't make it bootable in the first hand
i have used your other program "nlite" many times and it have never made a bad bootable iso with nlite ,
so that's why i wonder what i did wrong with vlite why i't didn't create a bootable iso

Mcfly000, I presume you used CDs there, this control I'm using has some incompatibilities with few DVDs, they are working on it.
Jeronimo, I ment on some illegal activities so better to put it aside.

Actually no, that's another project I am doing. nuhi points out very well that the stuff I learned about how the NT 6.0 works and how Vista components interact were not learned through the "official MSDN channels", but through what I might call "complementary methods"
6) Missing dependencies in DirectPlay 9Ex
\Windows\system32\dpwsock.dll and \Windows\system32\dpserial.dll are being removed by something.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Services\{5046ab8cb6b1ce11920c00aa006c4972}\Path
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectPlay\Services\{5246ab8cb6b1ce11920c00aa006c4972}\Path
I think these two should not be removed. This issue may cause problems on games designed for DirectX 10
I will make today a minimal build with everything removed to check again these for further missing dependencies.

#1, I fixed the Media Center for the next version, it wasn't the .net, you can see in full Vista that those 2 old .NET versions are same as after vLite.
#2, also not true
#3, Ok, done
#4, Gonna check
#5, WER parts are left because needed
#6, also not true since I don't remove them, how about you research a little better before posting, I must say when I saw so detailed report I thought it will be true...but it turns out you're kinda trigger-happy. Anyway it's appreciated, we did fixed few things.
