Hi all,

I have narrowed down the problem to a relatively new update (still don't know what it is) but it's not 'just' in MDCU so we can rule out anything to do with the way MD's installer actually works, its one of the updates inside it. My latest AP release that i am testing has now suddenly got this 'bug' so now i know where to look. As soon as i find it, i'll let everyone know.

So has the download in the first post to 2.50 been updated to include the fixes?

Hi all,

I have more info on the problem i reported a few posts back ... there's another factor that i've only just discovered: you also need to install the Environment Space fix for Auto-Patcher to stop working. I *still* haven't found what is breaking the ability to set a SHELL command in CONFIG.SYS, which is then causing Auto-Patcher to fail. But, the problem can be avoided by the USER deleting the SHELL command from CONFIG.SYS and so its now OK to use MD's Cumulative Updater. It's pretty thorough so i'm happy that i can now recommend that people install this.

Hi ... would also like to know the answer to Post #29 (01-17-1008) : "So has the download in the first post to 2.50 been updated to include the fixes?" .... I had downloaded an earlier version of 2.50 before all this discussion of outdates and updates started. thanks, duffy98

Hi ... I have used this update ( Maximus Decim Cumulative Update ver.2.50 (New!)) three times in the past 2 weeks and have noticed that once I run it on my Win 98SE machine the USA - Eastern Time Zone and other times have dissappeared from my machine. I helped update a friend's computer and my computer twice before I realized that it was possibility related to this newer update. I only have the Alaska time zone available and mostly the far East locations. The 3rd time it happened I ran your MDGx Daylight Saving Time update and my Eastern and all other time zones were back. I am posting this so this can be checked out and confirmed by others and if it has happened to others, the fix or repair seems to be the MDGx DST update. I have done a fresh install of Win 98SE and the Eastern USA time zone was there and then when I run the Maximus Decim Cumulative Update ver.2.50 (New!) the Eastern and other USA time zones are gone. I noticed this Sunday when my computer didn't change the time as it should of. Still a great update to have but I need to know if others have had this problem. thanks ...

Maximus Decim / others...

I downloaded and installed the latest version 3.05 and never saw anything about the two Optional components that are now part of this download. .... the Zip-folders and Spider Solitaire. There was nothing that gave me the option to install or pass on these two items. Just curious if anyone else had noticed this when they installed the latest version. I have installed this update on two Win 98SE laptop computers and it installed OK but those two options never appeared either time for me to make a decision to install or not install. I already have Spider but was interested more in checking out the Zip-folders program.

thanks,
duffy98

I am planning on installing V3.05 in a clean install. it appears that it should be installed after 98SE2ME, as it contains the NUSB upgrade which seems to be recommended to be installed last.

Is the installer smart enough to know which items to replace. I am installing 98SE on a Thinkpad A22m, ca. early 2001, and so it appears I need ESDI_506 4102226 and not 4102225. can it be told NOT to install ESDI_506 4102225 so I can install ESDI_506 4102226 afterwards - or told to install ESDI_506 4102226 instead?

Are there any other notebook or Thinkpad (IBM notebook) related files which should be installed before or instead of files in this package?

Are there any other Unofficial Upgrades which will improve the ability of 98SE (98SE2ME) to work with a greater variety of USB devices or other newer hardware.

I've just installed this on a fresh, brand new reinstall of 98se, and so far everything is working really crisp, fast and lovely---a GREAT service pack!
Where though do I find WMI----?
I've used a few links I've found here and there, but cannot find a download link that works anyware!
Also, I have installed WMP 7.1---and used the updates for that, found on Erpman's sight.

I cannot repeat how great this is working!

Thanks gkar!

I could not find it anyware.
Now I can continue with what really seems a spiffy and great super tonic for 98se!
Necessary enriched substinance for 98se! So far working in a most excellent manner.
Once all is installed the test for small discrepencies can commence, though none have showed up yet.

Well, I did not install it yet.
When I went to install it, it says that there is an older version and do I want to overwrite it.
I do not remember ever installing WMI at any time.
Is this something that is part and parcel of Win 98se?
And, am I supposed to overwrite this supposedly older version?
I do not want to mess things up when everything is working so well!

...

Windows 98SE comes with some old WMI 1.1 files, so, yes, WMI 1.5 will want to upgrade these.
WMI 1.5 allows many information tools to read details from your motherboard and other components properly (via SMBIOS and other means).
For example, the DirectX 9 DXDiag tool will correctly show the motherboard information on the first page.

There are a few post-1.5 WMI updates too:

Thank you 1000 + times over RetroOS!

Now some might ask me, could you not have looked these things up yourself, but every time I searched for this info, and activated a link--I got a white page telling me something or other about something or other no longer there!

I never could really work with "official" instructions, and had to have it retold to me by those who had gone that way before. Yes, I found a great amp head once and proceeded to read the 'official" instructions that came with it.
It made it quite clear to use a special speaker cable, and not a guitar cord when hooking the head to the cab.
Well, to make a long story short, I dismissed the instructions all together, saying to myself "what does this guy know, he only designed the amp" !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, it cost about 200 dollars to re-do the head.
Thanks again! And since that incident, I have forced myself to improve to such a degree that I actually relish reading instructions when I can actually find them readily available.
But I still like to hear it spoken in plain simple English, rather than technical jargon.
I am learning a lot from MSFN, even about things I have never tried to do, yet might end up doing.

I'm using russian Windows 98 SE.
Yesterday I installed MDCU 3.05 (russian), and after it explorer menu became partially english. And the following bug appeared: after playing Worms 2 portable all letters of Total Commander and Lister menu disappeared, only underscores left. They restored after reboot (but not after restarting Total Commander), but this bug returned after playing Worms 2 again. I reinstalled MDCU 2.5 which I had before, and bug with Total Commander menu disappeared. But explorer menu is still partially english. Any ideas?
