You're probably asking why I posted those commands twice...
1. C:\WINDOWS [or your custom path if different] must be typed as actual path name in the Run... box [Start menu].
The Run... box does not support environment variables. ;-(
2. You can type environment variables [like %windir%] in a DOS box.
DOX boxes/sessions/windows support environment variables.
Or even easier...
create a DOS batch file with those lines [the ones from the DOS box] to do this every time you install/upgrade WMP/MPC/similar:
@echo off
%windir%\INF\UNREGMP2.EXE /RegUniv
%windir%\INF\UNREGMP2.EXE /UpdateWMP
REGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMV8DS32.AX
REGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMVDS32.AX
REGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMADMOD.DLL
REGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMSDMOD.DLL
REGSVR32.EXE /S %windir%\SYSTEM\WMVDMOD.DLL
cls
exit

C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\MPLAYER2.001

C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\WMPNS.001
C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\SKINS\9SERIESD.001
C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\SKINS\COMPACT.001
C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\SKINS\QUICKSI.001
C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\SKINS\REVERT.001

C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\SKINS\REVERT.001
C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\SKINS\WMP11.001
I guess it's time to go back to the drawing board... :(
For that, I have to install 98SE in a virtual machine.

See next post 4 the fix...

C:\PROGRAM\WINDOWS\SKINS\WMP11.001
I think I found the fix. Was under the CustomDestination directive [CDF] section, replaced ",85" with ",5" [back to 1st version, the 1 that worked]:
[DefaultInstall]
CustomDestination=CDF

[CDF]
49000,49001,49002=PFD,5
49300,49301,49302=MPD,5
49400,49401,49402=SKD,5

Pls download + install 98MP10.EXE [9.1 MB] one more time, and pls let me know if still doesn't work ok.
Tx

PS:
98SE2ME had the same bug, fixed now. ;)

Do you think its possible to add this Win 2000 fix to your package, if you have some spare time.
http://www.msfn.org/...post__p__947402
And if you may can you add Windows2000-KB2416400-x86-ENU.exe files, they are newer WinXP files of course. Thank you

I've considered adding l3codec.ax, but it may be a while, I don't have enough spare time at the moment.
98MP10 actually installs the ACM codec: L3CODECP.ACM, similar, but older [newer versions work only with WMP11/newer to my knowledge].

I will also update advpack.dll to newest build from XP SP3 [I've noticed it works properly with all 9x OSes].

About KB2416400 [Wild Bill's unofficial patch]:
Installs IE 6.0 SP1 only files, those belong to a cumulative IE fix, which I'm working on right now [not done yet].
98MP10 doesn't install any of those files.
