I just run a pretty much unaltered version of Firefox on my machines. I don't really bother with plugins/extensions because I find Firefox pretty good "out of the box".

I have had different extensions installed before, like ad-block, but that slowed down my browsing, so I took that off. I had this thing called "Server Spy" that showed you what the webserver was on the current webpage. But after a reload, it never returned.

There are some good extensions, but I have no use for them, I don't do much on the web any more. Just browse MSFN and Wincert.net, and thats about it :P

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1

Extensions (or should i say Ad-ons) sorted in alphabetical order [15]:

Adblock [0.5.3.043] (I'm too lazy to update to the newest one when this one works)
Adblock Filterset.G Updater [0.3.0.4]
Canadian English Dictionary
Dictionnaire MySpell en Francais (reforme 1990)
Download Statusbar [0.9.4.5.1]
Fasterfox [2.0.0] (set to Optimized)
FoxyTunes [2.2.1]
IE Tab [1.3.0.20061230
ProxyButton [0.2.7] (to send Firefox traffic down VPN tunnel when at school)
ReloadEvery [2.0] (great for Ebay)
RSS Ticker [1.8.10]
Stealther [.98]
Tabbrowser Preferences [1.3.1.1]
User Agent Switcher [0.6.9] (for web development, scripts that depend on browser refer)

Theme: Firefox Default

Firefox takes a few seconds to load the first time, but after, everything works perfectly. I'm on a laptop and hibernate, so i don't reboot often and Firefox stays in memory. I add new extensions when i find something interesting, and test it out for a week or so. all the ones above are almost constantly used.

A couple extras that haven't been mentioned yet (besides Adblock, WebDev Toolbar, etc):

PDF Download So it asks if you want to open/download the PDF or whatever, instead of using some plugin that takes eternity and a day to open without warning
VideoDownloader To download videos off popular video sharing sites easily
ForecastFox Shows weather forecast
SwitchProxy Tool To manage and switch between proxies, like Tor and HTTP debugging proxies
Live HTTP Headers To see HTTP headers and requests
Firebug Another great web dev tool, such as the WebDev toolbar (all kinds of HTML/CSS/JS/DOM/AJAX stuff)

There's the odd extension I use from time to time too (StumbleUpon, FoxyTunes, etc)

I prefer DownloadHelper over VideoDownloader.
http://www.downloadhelper.net/
https://addons.mozil...g/firefox/3006/

btw here is a tweak I like:

Quote

about:config
browser.tabs.closeButtons [Integer]This setting controls how the red 'x' close buttons on tabs appear in Firefox.
A value of 0 only displays the close button on the active tab,
1 (the default) shows it on all tabs,
2 results in no close buttons being shown at all,
3 displays a single close button at the end of the tab bar.

Also I just let Firefox use the Acrobat Reader plugin, but I know a way to have it open externally without an extension.
Tools -> Options -> Content -> FileType -> Manage -> *double-click* on PDF :)

It's a matter of preferences, one uses whatever they like (that's what makes FF so nice). Adobe is too bloody slow (that's what my reference to "eternity and a day" was referring to, the slowdobe plugin). I'm a Foxit Reader fan myself, but even then I prefer to download them half the time, and this gives me the option to chose - and it also serves as some sort of warning when opening a link to a pdf when you weren't suspecting.

Again, matter of preferences, it's not like I expect everybody else to use it, but then again there's some on your list I wouldn't use either (like NoScript)

@Black Wolf:
Thx :thumbup

@sven:
You say "to send Firefox traffic down VPN tunnel";
Any chance you could explain briefly how you do this? I'm having serious issues with the webwasher-feature installed in the proxy at work. I would like to be able to relay all my traffic through my home server..

I installed hamachi on my home computer, then installed it on my laptop. when you turn both of them on, and create a tunnel between both computers, you have a vpn tunnel with encrypted traffic (much easier to set up then open vpn). then, i installed free proxy onto that computer, and set it as a proxy server binded to the hamachi network adaptor. when you want to use the proxy, turn on hamachi to initiate the tunnel, then just set firefox's proxy settings to use the proxy at the ip address of your other computer (you will see, hamachi will give it a 5.*.*.* ip address, which is unique to that computer).

Hamachi creates a virtual network, so it's like both computers are on the same network, even though they are connected by the internet. i use this also if i'm out and want to print something i found, because if the printer is on, it'll print, if not, it gets added to the queue for when the printer is turned on.

Anything else, just ask.
