Can not get WMCE 2005 Rollup 2 cd to install!

Recommended Posts

I bought a new dell c521 that came with a WMCE 2005 cd, and it had a bunch of crap loaded on it from Dell, so I figure i'd do a fresh format, well now since I have done that I can't get the WMCE 2005 CD to work! It gives me an error, like some of the files can not copy from cd, or there was an error with D:/I86 or something like that, and Dell has sent me 2 extra cd-roms, and that makes 3 total, and none of them will install Media Center, wtf?? I even downloaded a torrent, and was going to put my cd key in so it would be legal, that's located on top of my pc case, but that won't install either! What should I do? I want a legal version of Windows, I am run now having to use a pirated version of W2K3 until I can get my media center working, help please!

Quite often, with new pc's, file copy errors are a sign of faulty ram. Replacing your ram, or, removing one stick, if you have 2 that is, and then trying to install Windows can help. In other words, try to eliminate one of the sticks. However, be aware that most new PC's are sealed and breaking that seal will void your warranty. I would just take back the PC and request a software reload and checkup.

Also, please post the exact error/s so that we could diagnose your problem more accurately. Good luck! :P

My comp originally came with 1gb of ram 2 512 sticks, I added another 1gb stick to it. It's not faulty, but it may not want to install because I added another stick to it, you make a really good point!! Thank you!

@jca2007 - Just so you know - downloading a CD containing Windows is illegal - regardless of whether or not you use your own key.

The better option to do would be to extract the necessary files from your Dell CD and create your own ISO from that. It's perfectly legal to use the files from a purchased copy of Windows to make your own CD. Downloading another because you don't have the know-how isn't. There is plenty of information on the forums here to help you with that anyways. ;)

Thank you for your help I appreciate it, however it is not illegal if you put your cd key in because it's turns it into a legal os.

So, did you manage to fix the problem yet?

Yep, I set the bios back to default, and took out my 1gb stick of ram that I had bought extra for it to have 2gb, and left the 2 512 sticks in their that originally came with it, then reformatted and it installed. It worked for a little bit, then When I tried to install some of my games like Joint operations Combined Arms, I kept getting catastrophic errors, and when I tried to install SW Battle Front 1 and 2 got the same thing also, didn't know if it was actually the OS or my onboard 6150 LE card that didn't like it, games are all in New Condition, So im on Vista now and am getting the same darn errors.

Maybe you could try removing the two 512's and putting back the 1gb stick. Might help.

BTW: Yesterday, I bought a 512 stick for my girlfriends laptop. She had a 512 already, with one more open slot. The plan was to add the 512 and then bask in the glory of 1GB of ram!! Woo!Hoo!!!

WRONG!!! When I opened up the install panel, I found two 256mb sticks. Seems like the guys at Acer, when we sent in the laptop for repair, removed the 512 and installed two 256's. So, now we have 768mb of ram. Yayy!!!

Lesson: trust no one!

Well the comp I have came with 2 512 sticks originally and I went and bought a 1gb stick for it, to have more ram, however it works with the two 512's and not the 2gb wtf? Dell is really messed up. Is there not a way around this, where I can put more ram in here? I called them and asked them about it, but they are like it should be fine, dumb asses.
