Is it possible to stop icons from programs running in the background from showing up in the notification area?

normally, therea two options to stop seeing icons in the systray. one is to close the procees of the program itself. the other is to use (if availabel) a "hide systray icon" option if the program supports it. if you mean to stop the process at any given time and silently you can use a command made for that called taskill.
