I am installing Flash Player v9.0.28.0 on an unattended install and it is
taking a long time to install - something like 10 minutes! It should take
less than one minute, or normally does.

I am installing Firefox, then a few other apps and Flash Player last, so
it can install into Firefox and is all set up.

Anyone else had this happening? It takes so long I am considering just
leaving it out completely which I never wanted to do but I am not having
a file thats less than 2Mb taking ten minutes to install, its ridiculous.

This installs before the first login, maybe swapping it to when Windows is
logged in might make it install like it should?

A solution you may consider is visiting my repository for ready made switchless installers.
There is one for the Flash program, and a separate installer for the firefox plugin.

Thanks, I forgot to say the Flash Player I am using is switchless, I made it
into an SFX with WinRAR.

Hmmmm, the batch file run from the SFX says in english terminology....

"if the plugin is installed already - don't install it".

It covers three browsers, sheesh, I will cut all that out and see if it fixes it
but I still don't understand why this should make it not install as fast.

Flash Player is taking LONGER THAN WINDOWS to install!

What causes this?

I have already bypassed this stupid ten minute long install
for Firefox and Opera by putting the DLL file "NPSWF32.dll"
in both the plugin folders for those browsers but what about
Internet Explorer? Where would the file "NPSWF32.dll" go if
I wanted to do it as a plugin for Internet Explorer?

Not a solution (and rather painstaking, I'd imagine), but maybe you could have a look to see what RyanVM does to install it in his Update Pack? (or you could use the update pack, of course) The installation procedure he uses was recently revised, so apparently installing it for IE -is- a pain.

I want to set Windows up so when it installs, you can just go straight to
to Google Video or YouTube in IE7 and it works.

Yes, I know there are silent installers for Flash Player, but they take
ten minutes to install for some reason. I don't want to "install" it, I just
want to put the flash DLL in the right place to make Google Video and
YouTube work.

This is no problem with Firefox or Opera but when it comes to IE7, its tough,
WHERE IS the plugins directory for IE7? It doesn't even have a GD plugins
directory!

Even if I try to install Flash Player normally it says it cant find my browsers
plugin directory. If I go to YouTube, it want to install some "ActiveX" version
or something... d4mn man this is ridiculous...

Does anyone know where the flash DLL should go for IE7?

Possibly the same place where IE6 got its flash dll. Your best bets would be RyanVM's update pack (which includes Flash) or Shark's switchless Flash installer for IE.

Edit: after a quick search, try here: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
If it isn't there, the file you want is an ocx file, not a dll, and there's a Flash Player Helper executable as well.
