I don't recommend using those packs. Reshacking system files by yourself is the way to go. I don't like having a 10MB shell32.

VIPv3 works flawlessly for me, just return explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe from backup after installing.

32bit icons are nice.

but when can we see some ClearType in Windows 2000?

if Win2k did ClearType and 32-bit icons, i bet some people would move to it from XP.

another thing abpout he vista icon pack 3.0 is that it really messes up the icons for the device manager and the shell crashes more often but otherwise its cool

Hi all. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm delighted with this hack for Windows 2000. Best thing to happen in ages :thumbup

Anyway, I'm not posting just to say so. I should report also what I'm experiencing with WinRAR. See:

Posted Image

This is WinRAR with FOOOD's Junior theme. As you can see, the alpha layer of the icons on the toolbar is rendered weirdly. All of these are 32 bit bmps. The way WinRAR shows the shell icons (see the "Confirm file replace" dialog) is even stranger.

There is a winrar.exe.32bitimgl file on WinRAR's folder and strangely enough it seems to be working (because when browsing the hard disk the alpha layered icons show just fine in the list, as you can see in the capture).

So, that's it. Issue reported :)

That negative-like effect happens everywhere. Not always, though. So It's kinda random.

btw, is it possible to have XP style taskbar in win2000? And to talk more in general, some kind of skin support?
I saw something similar in Win98 Revolution pack so I hope it can be the same for Win2000 too :D

Provolino, try the TClock3 project. It should work much better for Win 2000 than for Win98.

Tihiy, perhaps a note in the first post about the status of your work on this project would be helpful? Or, if you prefer, we could do something with this thread (un-sticky, lock, etc).

Onos!!! It's dead?

I can help starting skinning support and maybe have a look at patching TextOutA and TextOutW with Freetype for ClearType font render feel... Any chance of opening the project to the community Tihiy?

never going to happen, Xenomorph

c'mon folks, read this thread as to why Cleartype won't ever be implemented in Win2k:

sorry to bring bad news about that but life is sometimes cruel

at least it's nice of Tihiy to make a Win2k Revo Pack now that I've migrated my relative's computers from Win98se/WinME to Win2000 and have installed Gurgelmeyer's Unofficial Win2k SP 5.1.2195.24 refresh pack on their machines

I beg to differ...

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...st&p=622785

Unfortunately I have just about zero time to perfect it, but it's a start in case anyone wants to play with it. The source should be included.

EDIT: This wasn't the newest version I had. If you visit the link above you can get version 0.1.5, which has some text positioning improvements.

I have a question. my system tray icons are still not 256-bit colored  . How do I get them? BTW, the toolbar icons installed OK.

did you try creating a new text file in winnt or whatever your systemroot is and naming it "explorer.exe.32bitimgl"
this should make the tray icons better if you have rpl2k installed.
