Hello

I'm looking for some software that can batch process a big list of files. I've got two columns in Excel, one with the old names and one with the new ones. Does anyone know of an application which can read excel, find the corresponding file in a subdirectory and rename it to the new name? The files are not in much of an order so can't just export a text file.

Thanks

Here are two topics to get you started:
First renaming folders using data in an excel spreadsheet:

Second renaming files using data in a text doc:

It never ceases to amaze me the new approaches people come up with to solve a problem.

ah. Thanks, but I'm terrible at coding. Plus I don't really have the time at work to learn (not gonna do it in my spare time!). Anyone know of any pre-made applications which can do it?

Thanks again

But you expect one of us to do it in our spare time so you can save yours? I like to help people...but you have to be willing to do at least part of the work! :)

IcemandND pointed you to a couple of articles that will do everything you want...all you have to do is a little copy and pasting with some minor editing.

ReNamer from den4b.com can do it!

Just save your Excel files as *.txt (tab separated) or *.csv (comma separated).
Then use "Import list of files and new names" from the Options menu in ReNamer.
